KTHV) -- Dachshund puppies can cost as much as $200, but last Saturday, a couple got a good deal when they bought one for 15 bucks at a yard sale. The problem is the dog didn't belong to the man who sold it.

"I know he misses his toys," says the dog's owner Ann Loveless.

Loveless is like many pet owners, she treats her dachshund "Kringle" more like a child than a pet.

Loveless explains, "When I took a shower, he took a shower. When I go to bed, he goes to bed. When I get up, he gets up. He's more than just a dog. He is my companion and I love him."

So, last Saturday when Kringle got out of his harness and into the streets, Ann panicked.

Loveless says, "I started just driving around the neighborhood."

Ann saw a yard sale at a home a block away and asked if anyone there had seen her dog.

"And he said, 'Yes, we saw your dog but we have no idea where he is'," Loveless says.

Loveless didn't believe the man. That's when police got involved.

If I was the dog owner, I would have pressed charges, wanted the dog back, and murdered the guy. Dogs are great.

Either way, for the neighbor to sell the dog was inexcusable.. and I wonder if all they got was $15?

I once made the mistake of letting a neighbor watch a sale of mine for a bit.. she sold a 10 oz sterling silver commemorative plate that I had clearly marked for $150 for "$15".. or so she said. She insisted she misread the tag and sold it for the lesser amount. :(

I would laugh about this, but I'm too fearful that the wife will see this thread and get ideas. She thinks spending $100+ a month to feed my 165Lbs. Rottweiler is a bit too much.

Dave- Thanks for the post.

I once bought a perfectly good camcorder, complete with two batteries, charger, camcorder bag, and all the other doodads, for $5 at a garage sale because the woman couldn't get it to power on.. I got it home and discovered that she apparently didn't realize you have to charge the batteries. :-/

Thought the woman's name was pretty ironic since she lost her dog which she loved so much (Loveless :p )

Well, this happened awhile back but similar camcorders were still selling used for $150 or so..

Tip No. 1: Garage sale in well to do neighborhoods for the best buys on "new" stuff.. people with disposable income tend to just want to clean the stuff out and sell it cheaply. People who need the money to eat want (and need) every dime BUT alot of times will sell antiques cheap because they don't place as much value on them as they do a set of brand new truck rims.
