Camping out at Target overnight, waiting for PS3.

My teenage nephew is camping out at Target tonight, waiting for the Playstation-3 launch in the morning. He just called me on his cell phone and said there's about 20 other people at that particular store. They have tents set up, food and drink, even a portable toilet.

These guys really want that new game system. Crazy stuff.

Have any of you (or your family) been struck by the madness?

They actually told everyone to go home that was in a line earlier in Florida... there was a huge fight that broke out.

All fun and kidding aside, I'm not sure how I feel about those guys using the homeless people that way. Then again, they are getting a hot meal and $100 in their pocket, so that's good.

Still, it seems rather... creepy.

Even more interesting... many of the people are not buying the system for themselves, but instead they are going to resell it on eBay for 3X-4X the price. Supplies are limited for the launch (and holiday), and it may be the only way some people can have a PS3 under the Christmas tree.

So true, I remember going on ebay after the xbox 360 was launched and seeing a guy sell 20 xbox 360's at $900 each. People were actually buying them.

Yeah, a lot of people did this for the Xbox 360 too. A lot of them didn't actually get one.

I hear the PS3 actually has more of a limited supply than the 360 so it should be interesting.

On Wednesday afternoon, the tents went up at my local Best Buy and stretched half the length of the building. Two days before launch! And most people seem to be buying for resale, as there is a very limited supply of PS3's to go around before the holidays. Wii on the other hand should have plenty of stock.

This is a cool site. You can put in your zipcode and see what stores getting the PS3 and how many. http://www.ps3seeker.com/

There's one for Wii too http://ps3seeker.com/wii/

Last night our local news found a store with no line at all. Imagine the rush to that store to get in line.

At our local Walmart they only got 6 in. First come first serve. There's going to be alot of dissapointment at the lines in this area.

Same with my Walmart. The thing is we are a college city and it was nutz because the college kids were lining up. They were lined up Wednesday! Walmart made a special opening at Midnight to sell it. The bad thing is the paper printed and said they were selling 10. So 4 people got let down! I wonder if that will hurt their EBay auction, lol.

In other news, the new Tony Hawks Game (Project 8) was released today to coincide with the PS3 release. They are the first main stream game I have seen advertised for PS3 without it being a PS3 commercial.

What other games have been released?

Do you guys think the majority of them will be reselling their PS3? My boyfriend thinks that that is why so many were willing to be crazy lining up like that for days, to resell it for 3-4 times the amount.

Yeah, those "SmashMY-----" people are crazy. They happen to be from Toronto, I believe :( !

I saw on the news that this guy lined up only to buy and resell on eBay ... he said he'll get one for himself later. The lineups are crazy.

I also saw that there was a shooting somewhere in the U.S. in the PS3 line, as well as a riot. Crazy people! Materialism kills :o !

:bah:

-db-, did your nephew manage to get his hands on one?

Yes, he got one!

The question now is whether he's going to keep it, or be tempted to resell on eBay. I told him I'll buy him a couple extra games if he keeps it. That way maybe I can play around with it too.

I camped out for Halo 2, Halo 1, World of Warcraft, xBox, and xBox 360, and I had plans too for PS3 but I ended up being too busy too. And my teacher took us when HL2 was released to get t-shirts, and copies at 4AM lol.

I am camping out for the Wii :), hope to see some friendly faces, and my teacher actually considers Wii a "excused absense"

Now who is crazy?

He should definitely sell it on eBay right now, he'll make a lot of money. He can always purchase the PS3 again when it starts selling at original price.
