Camping out at Target overnight, waiting for PS3.

My teenage nephew is camping out at Target tonight, waiting for the Playstation-3 launch in the morning. He just called me on his cell phone and said there's about 20 other people at that particular store. They have tents set up, food and drink, even a portable toilet.

These guys really want that new game system. Crazy stuff.

Have any of you (or your family) been struck by the madness?

My goodness, that is really crazy. But then it may be comparable to domainers before and after land rush of various domain extensions.

Even more interesting... many of the people are not buying the system for themselves, but instead they are going to resell it on eBay for 3X-4X the price. Supplies are limited for the launch (and holiday), and it may be the only way some people can have a PS3 under the Christmas tree.

You're nephew seems to be a serious gamer. You should consider yourself lucky that he didn't asked you to take him to Japan to camp there, like i saw some guys on TV  .

If I had the cash and the free time I'd probably do it. My wife would kill me though.

I considered it, but the bank closed before i could make a withdrawl. I was going to enlist some friends to buy as many as possible, assuming there is a 1 per person limit, and ebay em.

Why is he sleeping out?
He could have pre-ordered one from EB Games or Gamestop a month ago.
Then he could have just walked in anytime after the 17th and picked his PS3.

You mention 20 people sleeping out, what if the store is only allocated 10? :(

At our local Walmart they only got 6 in. First come first serve. There's going to be alot of dissapointment at the lines in this area.

It's not that simple. People waited overnight to be able to preorder. Also both of those stores have said they will NOT be able fill all of them on launch day. Bummer...

Because he's young and crazy.

Plus, all the pre-order spots were reserved, at least the stores who were not over-selling.

I asked him the same question. He didn't have an answer. :(

Why not hire a homeless person to stand in line for you?

Woah.... they hired 50 homeless people...

Thomas Rosatti and his buddies were first in line at the store. But shortly after they pitched their tent, they got company.

"A truck rolls up, one of those U-Haul type trucks, and seriously, 50 people rolled out, and he says they got them from the homeless shelter," Rosatti said.

While WRAL was there, the truck used to transport the men from the homeless shelter returned with food for the men. Abdul Salem said he and a friend came up with the idea. They said they plan to pay the men $100 a day to stand in line for a ticket to purchase a PS3 unit that costs around $600.

"It's got to be the eBay incentive," Salem said.

The eBay incentive is all about money. The going price on the site for a PS3 unit is approaching $2,000.

i honestly was about to camp out as well. my wife thought i was a complete loon but my desire was huge for the ps3.........

i came to my senses when i went to my local best buy, target, walmart and gamestop...and saw HUGE lines!

I then realized a 41 yr old guy camping out for a PS3 was a bit childish :hehe: especially when i have a zillion other things to do like edit my movie and buy .mobi domains!

I will have my PS3 but i will wait until the madness subsides. its an awesome machine.and i must have it! :'(

:yell: Looks like I'm in the wrong business again!

I think it must be my mission in life to miss every single moneymaking opportunity I can. It's the only thing I'm really good at, I have a 100% success rate so far! :D

Good on your nephew, it's a good way to make money... except the sleeping out part anyway! :tu:
