Hi,

i know to calculate domainprices is sometimes like poking around in the dark.

Its much easier if you got something - like histories, pageranks aso.
(aut. calcs and calc. brokers are crap).

But if you got nothing?
How you make a decision?

My question:

You buy a domain.
The TLD is .com or .net.
You use clear words or names.
The domain has 4-6 letters.
No numbers or hyphs inside.
You pay max 10 dollars, because its free and you can register it.
the domain has NO HISTORY - NOTHING.

How to calculate the value?

What i tried in the past...

a. Check prices of similar domains. Well...the range is betwen 78,- dollar and 6145,- dollar.
b. Ask experienced sellers, in forums: "uuuhh, sorry bro ... your domain is a pile of shunk - nothing...." - > Two weeks later sold in an auction for 1230 bucks.

So, that isnt really helpful?

Thanks!

You can not calculate. You can only evaluate to some extend. And while you can train yourself to do it more or less, you can't train any computer or robot to do this with the same accuracy.

Agreed with Golan a lot of it is speculation but at the same time you give yourself a better chance at getting a good quality domain but getting in the habit of doing certain researching tactics before buying.

For me here are the most important aspects of measuring a domain's value:

#1 Put it on ZFbot or similar sites to this one. It tells you how many related sites are out there using that specific keyword term in their domain. This shows you other people think the term/domain is valuable and these can be potential buyers you can contact to sell your domain to if you decide to get it.

#2 Check the searches and CPC over at the Google Keyword Planner (Tool) the higher the searches the better and of course the higher the CPC. But I simply use it as a guide. If a term has 500 searches but 100 related sites and $3 CPC it will be a term that interests me. Same for a term with 20 related sites but 10k searches and $1 CPC.

#3 Over at NameBio you can see similar sales and see how recent they are and get an idea of the avg sale price. This will help you determine whether you are paying to much for the domain or getting a bargain.

#4 Say the name out loud and give it some thought, think about how a company/business can use this domain, what can someone develop it into. These are the types of common sense questions that will help you determine how useful and valuable a domain actually is.

As you get more experience you will discover other details to pay more attention to. I learn something to implement everyday but these 4 are my foundation.

Hardly few people guide like to train newbies especially when you accept to be a newbie, there are more chances of getting odd guides. Anyway, Willox did a great job while putting very useful words in his thread most of which can really bring you on a better track of domaining.

Apart from all of that, I just wanted to say that never stop learning, and never think that you have learned all, always be active to learn more and more and research as much as you can on different domain forums, Facebook groups and much more. As said above, Google Adword keyword planner is of use in assessing the worth of a name.

In addition, also keep checking Google Trends that further reveal the search volume decently.

Hope, this helps.
Thanks

Agreed as other said. Use Google Trends and Google Planner to evaluate your domain in specific niche.
I always do my own due dilligence for a week before buy nice domain.
Investors deal with speculation every time. It depends on how you manage the risk, wallet, and personal mentallity. High risk or low risk..

Good advice above. Just remember. It's said over and over again.

A domain name is really only worth what someone is WILLING to pay for it.

Formula to calculate the exact value of a domain:
Sorry, this formula doesn't exist.

If we see the value is that what someone is willing to pay for y/our domain at the end, then it depends simply to y/our negotiation skills.

So (let's) use y/our skill/s to climb the hill/s ;)

EXAMPLE
I choose the 'mountain of .top' because I think '.top' is a good Argument - especially in future.
