Technology changes so fast... it was just a few years ago, and everyone went crazy for 3D names.

An hour ago, 3D TV was declared dead in light of 4K TV.

One hour after that, it seems like 8K TV has taken the spotlight!! (Yeah, tech changes real fast!!) :blink:

"Everybody" didn't go crazy for 3d domains.
Complete fking idiots went crazy for 3d domains.

It isn't like those complete fking idiots weren't warned. They were. Very, very boldly.
They were told by experienced people (ie- people who actually deposit more money into their bank accounts than they take out from domain name reselling) that what they were doing was a pending disaster, their methodology couldn't be any dumber but there's no turning back a herd of morons fueled by big dreams, their own terrible insight and the affirmation of all the other retards around them doing the same dumb sht. They simply chanted their dogmas to drown out the truth and plowed forward, straight off the cliff.

Now, with a year or two of hindsight to settle up just who was right and who was wrong, as "we" peer over that same cliff and see their corpses littering the bottom of Domain Failure Canyon, "we" can indeed all laugh at their tragic fate but don't stand there very long, as there will certainly be a new herd coming along shortly to plummet to their own financial deaths.

It's technology, of course it is going to change. I would never suggest investing in technology domain names as an investment. It can take years to sell a domain and technology changes faster than that. A technology related is only worth while if you are in that business.

Example:
Say you provide cloud web hosting services, buying cloud.com could be a great investment to your business. Buying all the cloud related domain names available including brandables is not bright because well, Cloud will only last a few years and there will be something even better!

I bought 3D domains but I did not go crazy for them. If I lose money it won't break my bank, any wise investor of whatever product knows that diversification is a must do.

Those who made the mistake of buying hundreds of 3D domains will feel the heat thought. I think that it was mostly newbies, I find it hard to believe an experienced domainer would put all of their eggs in one basket or fad.
