Dynadot โ€” .com Transfer

Buying every .com that has a .net/.org without the .com pair?

In short: Does that sound like a plan?
Some issues, of course, but on its face I would like a simple script that ran through .net and .org search results to see if the .com's are avaiable and then compile a list of the available .com's...
Anyone a programmer type and wants to do this, I can donate to help finance the project ;)

Not a bad idea. You'll want to combine it with a back link check and sanity check. Otherwise you end up buying crap. Lets say someone registered a .com. Then someone saw the .com was registered and registered the .net. Then the original .com owner let the .com lapse because it was a crap name.

The good news is that If you set some basic criteria you'll have a limited enough set of results that you can easily review them manually. There's a lot of people who have been doing this for a long time. I have about 50,000 names like this I'm watching for. One drops occasionally, but rarely something very exciting. Still it's a good thing to add to your daily drop watch list.

Obviously I've already written something similar to what you want so if you want to talk about it dome me a line.

You're about 5 years too late, drop list providers have been selling this kind of info for a long time. Likely most of the names fitting that criteria are just names which aren't worth anything in .com/.net/.org and the .net and .org hasn't been dropped yet. If you come up with any other ideas I'd say don't post them up on public forums, if it is a good idea everyone reading will beat you to the punch.

Depends on the idea :cy:

Another possibility would be finding .coms with hyphens and checking if the unhyphened version is available. :o

If .net is an active website - yes.

What kind of algo is that?
One that restores sanity after endless hours of going over even the filtered lists. Anybody know a really good optomologist?

I don't think that Allan's idea is exactly the same as subscribing to a drop service.

besides, I don't think that if Allan thought he had a real money maker that he would have annouced it so publicly. Are you trying to say that you think, in fact, he has a good idea and that you thought about "stealing" it?

I once spent some time researching active and established ISP's, hosting companies (etc) that were set up on .NET space, and registered a few of the available .com's (about 7 if I remember) that were not taken. Combined they produced a decent amount of traffic, 300-400 uniques per day. I used them for a while but then resold them with a site package.

I looked thru lots of crap to find those, and it wasn't easy.

Plus, most companies are smart enough to acquire the .com, even if they use the .net primarily. I'm sure there's still some needles in the haystack, and having an easier way to find them would be nice.

It wasn't a net/org, but an unusual net/.us that I stumbled onto the other day when I regged crapzilla.com, (seriously!). The crapzilla.us was regged for 3 yrs beginning in 2003 and the .net show 11/04-11/05 and they are regged by different people. The .com doesn't show up on Wayback, so one can only project as to what the circumstances were on this one. Golly, Wally. It's a wacky world out there, sometimes. :o

Yeah, that is what drop list providers do. A great idea, if you had just come up with it a little sooner. Still if your are interested in making $$$, you could always sell the script if you did not wish to use it.
