Build a search engine

Can anyone recommend (hopefully a free) search script which will display results like in a Google/Yahoo style which also enables me to insert Adsense down the right hand side of the page.

Also, I would only want this script to search my server only, can this take up lots of bandwidth?

Most of the search engines will not allow to take their data.

The ones that allow to take their data gives you API key and after some limited number of queries you have to pay up for the data.

Some also don't allow their data to be used as search results.

I have researched this from last 2 years.

There are only some ways.

1) Take data and pay for the data. But you risk money here even after marketing if you get more queries going and less earnings then its going to be loss.

2) Partnerup with some search engines. They might take months to even reply back.

3) Start your own. You can find scripts like aspseek and datapark.ru which can help you in getting started with it.

4) Rethink the whole strategy.
- You have huge competition.
- You might have to pay more then you might earn.
- Your marketing efforts & expenses or your management efforts & expenses will cost you more then you bargained for.

i think he only wants a search function for his peronal websites, not for the whole web

Got it. This is the problem. I am always finding more complicated stuff for myself and not looking in basics

Try google custom search. You can restrict them to search only specific sites.
