Hi everyone,

So after a failed attempt at using a well known broker, I'm considering using an auction and promoting the portfolio myself. Case in point, I even got an email with interest in the portfolio by one of the biggest tech companies, I replied cc'ing the broker and making an introduction... the broker never even replied, said hello, NOTHING. How normal is that? What has your experience been with Brokerage firms? Is it simply a case that I got a bad one?

Would you suggest I try a different brokerage or continue with moving to an Auction and promoting it myself?! What are the advantages and disadvantages of each?

In no hurry,
Charles

Brokers need $10k valued domains even to get them to respond (maybe a tad exagerated, but true). They are unlikely to respond to domains worth >$1K. So it depends on your portfolio of domains. So we cannot answer you clearly without seeing you portfolio of domains.

Hi Stub,

The portfolio is HTML5โ€ขcom and HTML5 related domain names. I've been offered $1XXk for it in the past, but at the time I was launching a company around it. The company didn't take off but I do understand the value, thus I contacted a broker.

I would say definitely give it a try yourself that way you get experience and an understanding on how auctions work. As far as the broker seems it was just a bad experience. My thoughts are the broker should be up front about handling your domain or not and once you guys agree on the terms he should do everything he can to get the domain sold as it is to his benefit as well.

So for now go for the auction yourself then see how the goes. If you want you can also try different brokers but make sure you do your due diligence and learn from previous experiences of other clients.

Hi Will,

Thanks for the comments. It was a frustrating experience, especially considering I'm not expecting much... Just manage me as any client would expect to be.

I thinking about going to go the auction route at this point but still looking into it.

If any brokers are reading this, don't take on the responsibility of selling a domain name unless you are willing to at it 100%, period! Manage your clients as it is worth a millionaire, regardless less if they have one domain or 5,000! Yes, I understand you treat the guy with 5,000 with a little better but do remember money shift and so do domain names.

You submitted those domains for premium brokerage at Flippa.

I'm assuming that's where you had the problem...
No comment. Where did you get that information?

I worked for Flippa when you submitted it. I'm sorry you had that issue. I think I know what happened. You can PM me with details if you'd like. I'll be happy to clarify.

In which case, I would try another broker.
