This has to do with a service launched by Google that checks for malicious software and viruses on websites using a technology adapted by Google's.

The story is real and I am surprised by this. You can read the full article here: Business and Technology News, Breaking News

For a person like myself, who regularly use the yahoo mail for financially sensitive stuff like domain names and bank accounts etc., this is an alarming sign.

What you guys say? Should we consider quitting Yahoo mail and related services or is there something in the fine print?

Considering the breadth of content hosted by YHOO, I think 1 page out of almost 10K checked by GOOG is probably a false positive, a UGC (user generated content) issue ...

It's interesting, but I don't think it smacks of a conspiracy (yet) ;)

In case of GOOG, the malicious software is hosted on user hosted domains which are not owned by Google. Whereas in case of YHOO, one of the domains hosting malicious software is yimg.com which is clearly owned and hosted by Yahoo Inc. yimg.com has an alexa ranking of 434 as whenever I visit yahoo.com, some content is downloaded from l.yimg.com (You can see that in lower left corner of your browser window while yahoo.com would be uploading on your screen). This makes me a bit uncomfortable while visiting yahoo.com.
I hope that yahoo has not done anything wrong on purpose, but if someone has really broken into a site owned by yahoo and infected it, then it might be as serious as yahoo being malicious.

This... almost ends up explaining the problem my boss has with her laptop. Shes a yahoo-a-holic, and I'm always having to whipe/reload her computer because its just full of malware and god knows what else. /sigh/ I really like yahoo's email system, too.

its just a crazy humour...

I still remember couple of months ago.... google display all site as malicious hoster on its search results.

The problem is some ads site got some adware (ads to commercial software and toolbar)........ Google identify it as malicous..

Check these sites.. Yahoo is safe..
Norton Safe Web: http://safeweb.norton.com/report/show?url=yahoo.com&x=0&y=0
McAfee site advisor: http://www.siteadvisor.com/sites/yahoo.com

I just checked google.com with it itself.

I don't think this is possible...
Yahoo is too big to spread viruses ...
And yes ... there could be "bugs" or something like the google bombing :o

Lets hope this new Yahoo thing is a really a crazy humor by Google.

btw I feel a bit relieved after checking yahoo at Norton and McAfee siteadvisor.

But we must also remember that its not impossible for big dudes like yahoo & google to be hacked - it has actually happened in very recent past: Yahoo! Local Hacked - Vulnerable to SQL injection - Softpedia.

Small and medium players are probably even more vulnerable as we have already learned about Elance and Namedrive being hacked just a few months back.

Never liked Yahoo mail - NEVER! And, 2 yahoo email IDs that I do own, which I rarely use, but whenever I do, my desktop & laptop crashes. Happened yesterday as well, which annoyed the crap out of me. (know nothing about malware, etc.. but commenting on yahoo mail itself)
