Recently,Coinbase sues a German man, accusing him of maliciously registering the domain name coinbase.de and threatening extortion.
TechFlow News, July 28, Cointelegraph reported that cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase has sued German man Tobias Honscha in a California federal court, accusing him of maliciously registering the domain name coinbase.de and attempting to extort the company.
Coinbase claims that Honscha used the domain to redirect users to a physical coin exchange app and profit from the Coinbase affiliate program, violating the affiliate agreement's prohibition on using the word "Coinbase" in domain names.More seriously, Coinbase accuses Honscha of threatening to use the domain name in phishing attacks, including the unauthorized submission of IDs, passwords, and one-time two-factor authentication codes, if the company does not purchase the domain at a high price. Coinbase considers this to be "clear extortion."In addition, the domain name is also used to operate an email service, which may mislead users into thinking they are communicating with Coinbase officials. Coinbase asked the court to order the cessation of use of the domain name, transfer of domain name ownership, and compensation for losses.
Howere, the coinbase.de is still in use now.
