Hello -

I am totally new to this - and sadly I did not do my homework.

I searched to see if a certain company owned nameofcompany.info. They did not.

I purchased this damain and sent an email tot he company asking them if they wanted to purchase this domain.

I had no intention of doing anything with the domain other than trying to sell it to the company for a nominal fee.

I got a letter from their attorneys telling me to give them the domain.

I am guessing I should just give them the domain. Suggestions?

What is the term? If the term is something that is made up, and not a generic just give them the domain. It is a .INFO after all and not worth the effort.

LOL @John

Just give the domain to them, joshnyc. Consider it a humbling experience, and
it could've been worse if you especially dealt with someone unreasonable.

why joke thread? just cuz a newbie comes in seeking help? you were one at some point in time, so leave him alone for crying out for help on something he isn't too sure about !!!

If it's a setup, who's being harmed? :)

IMO, give the domain back to them unless you want to deal with their potential lawsuit.

give them the domain, if it's trademarked especially, but don't give up...keep creating..your next one can sell!

You Broke Mulitple Cardinal Rules with your registration.

1) Don't By TM's (TM Infringment)
2) Don't Buy TM's with the intention to sell it to the the TM holder (CyberSquatting)
3) Don't Contact the TM Holder and ask them to buy it (It lets them know who you are and why you got it)
Had you not contacted them you could have put up an "anti" or commentary site (i.e. CompanyX Stinks) and maybe they would have discovered it and you might have some leverage to get them to buy it off you but those are long shots that require you to actually develop and maintain them.

Give the name to them (You can ask for the reg fee and maybe they will comply) Good luck.

...anyone suggesting he do something other than (a) learn fast, and (b) the right thing.

I can understand the impression that this is some sort of test to see who rises to the bait, since it is difficult to construct a more perfect and concise description of what not to do.

You should hand this domain to the company.

You have no right to there TM unless its a generic word like apple etc but you have already offered them the name which mean you registered the domain in bad faith!

We all make mistakes - I too have done something similar in my younger domaining days.

Just give them the domain in question and take this as a lesson learned.

Regards,

Robbie

Avoid the comment this user has stated and listen to the senior members on namepros and give the name up and hope they don't persue you any further etc.

Hope you do the right thing and welcome to namepros ;)
