With $800 renewals I don't think so.

Other than the producer of James Bond and related, I don't think someone can afford to invest 800$ only on renewals knowing the choice of millions of other extensions already availables at low cost.

So bad, it makes other ngTLDs look bleak.

This is common with shameful ngtld pricing;
We mustn't single out .bond —

I can see the rationale behind exclusive spaces that are not full of garbage.
Especially for .security & .storage
It creates a level of trust.

why not pay $8 a year for same trust .com?

Because the dot com space is filling up with garbage.
You can gain that level of trust with a good short dot com, but it's going to cost a lot more than $8 to buy that domain - probably the same as these exclusive extensions.

I don't think the purchase price is the problem really... sure it might cost over $8 to buy, but what's the renewal like?

.com renewal @ $80 for 10 years
.bond renewal @ $8000 for 10 years

What do you think you're best chances are as a reseller? Buying one domain with high renewal fees, or buying 100 domains with lower renewal fees?

If you're worried about paying good money for a good domain name, imagine how you'll feel when it comes time to renew it at $800 a year.

These exclusive spaces have been priced to keep scammers, domainers and resellers out.

I like the fact that users going to 'MacroHard'.storage are not going to end up on an $8 phishing site and have their login details harvested if they make a spelling mistake when typing in the URL.

Edited for grammar
