Just got an email regarding the BlackWorm virus that looks set to attack on Friday 3rd Feb.

Just wanted to mention it here, so you guys and gals, can make sure your antivirus software and firewalls are updated, etc.

Heh. Thanks for the info. I was unaware of this, although I stopped downloading viruses and spyware 2 years ago. I used to have to format my computer every month, now that I got thousands of dollars of information stored, I can't take that risk.

Hmm. How do you go about stopping virus and spyware downloading? Or a better question might be ... why even start? :-/

I think he meant that some virus came with the antispyware such as the winfixer etc. I had that winfixer which really made a mess.

I was looking up this 'Winfixer' and saw this funny post on a forum

Hi imrefer

We can definitely help you, but first you need to help us. The first step in this process is to apply Service Pack 1a for Windows XP. Without this update, you're wide open to re-infection, and we're both just wasting our time.
Click here: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloa...p1/default.mspx
Apply the update, reboot, and post a fresh Hijack This log.

Hi Touch,

Thanks for the reply. I have tried many time to update but failed everytime. It seems that my version of the XP is pirated (I bought it from HK). Under the circumstances, can you still help me? I had been pretty careful not to download bad things up until a few days ago. In fact, this is the first time the computer got infected ever.

Thanks again.

Hi imrefer
Maybe Microsoft can/will make it legal for you
Follow step 2 here = http://www.microsoft.com/resources/howtotell/ww/windows/default.mspx

Then post back with the exact message you receive.
What is HK?
---
OK, I will try again.

HK = HONGKONG

Hi Touch,

After going through the steps of validation here is what I got:

>>>>
Is it genuine?

Your CD does not appear to exhibit Microsoftโ€™s anti-piracy features.

These features are designed to reduce counterfeiting, as well as resist inadvertent damage and tampering. Lack of these features may indicate a problem. Microsoft recommends you contact your local Microsoft Anti-Piracy Hotline for additional information.

There isn't any mentioning of converting the product.
