Black Background

Ok before I lose my mind...can anyone tell me how to make the backgroup black in photoshop so that I can add some white text.

What I am trying to do is make a decal, however, the letters are going to be white. In order to view the design, I need a black background.

Any help is very much appreciated

create a new layer, select the paint tool, set the foreground color in your picker to black, click on the new layer. :P

I'm no expert but I think every new PSD already has a back ground layer.

yeah it does, you just need to double click the background layer to unlock it so that you can fill it with the paint bucket, or just select a black background when you are creating a new .psd document.
Failing that create a new layer, fill it black with the paint bucket then drag the black layer underneath your white text.

Open PhotoShop
Change foreground color to black
Create a new file
Set Background to Background Color

You have a black background

Procedures:

1. Open up Photoshop
2. Create new file
3. After creating the new file, press 'd' (set your color to black/white)
4. Make a new layer
5. Go to EDIT ---> FILL
6. Create another new layer
7. Press 'x' (set your color to white/black)
8. Press 't' (Text tool) and click where you want the white text to appear
