Nice to know that Mr. Gates is actually coming to what we have already concluded a year ago. Though he is off by 3-4 years at least. It should be coming sooner than anybody can think.

Thanks for sharing.

Microsoft.tv hides behind Microsoft.com, lets hope that changes and then Gates means business.

"Because TV is moving into being delivered over the Internet -- and some of the big phone companies are building up the infrastructure for that -- you're going to have that experience all together," Gates said.
A fair number of domain investors have felt this way for some time. Quite honestly, I was a little surprised when I first came to domain discussion forums and saw .TV get comparatively little respect.

I still see a certain ingrained tunnel vision (with some people) in which anything that doesn't currently exist gets put down and trivialized. My willingness to look ahead and take some educated risks has been beneficial in building up my portfolio. I know this is true for others here as well.

Some forums (not NamePros) are dominated by what I call dotcom purists ... and they display an overwhelming knee jerk reaction to put down anything non-com. This makes it very difficult to hold down a meaningful conversation about the future of the internet and the role that newer tld's are playing like dotTV or dotMOBI.

Not surprising , close-minded people exist in every facet of life. And this plays to the advantage of open-minded investors who are able to look beyond today's trend.

i personally think the growth for .coms is already gone. Once big money gets involved in something - Marchex, IReit, NameMedia, they use their massive amounts of capital to compete against each other to get quality names. Sometimes paying 8-10 years of revs for names. So IMHO the growth from an investment standpoint has matured or begun to mature with .COMS they are sort of the bluechips if you will they have garnished a massive valuation for good reason however their growth cycle will certainly slow.

That is where other extensions come into play they are the companies of the future that are on the NASDAQ and that is where the growth is. If you want something safer that pays a dividend you go .COM if you want something with tremendous growth potential no dividend but plenty of upside you go ext. such as .mobi, .tv, .us

This is really good news having Bill Gates saying this.

Am getting more and more confident about .tv. Only a few months ago I thought the recognition and break through of .tv will be somewhere in 2010 or so, but it can go fast now. 2007 will be the year for .tv and in the end of 2007 and in 2008 we will see some major big .tv sales :)

All in my opinion of course :hehe:

Too true Carlton,

check this out, I have Education.TV and I am constantly going round in circles as to what to do with the name......and am still all over the place with it...

A couple of weeks ago, I found out about this company that lends money for development of a site, by securing the rights to the domain name should the domain owner default on payments.........

They offer funding upto 250,000. I gave thgem a call to see how they would respond to EDUCATION.TV as a means of securing DEV money.......

THEY WERE NOT INTERESTED IN THE SLIGHTEST.!!!!!

The conversation went something like this:

But have you guys heard of .TV - have you read DN JOURNAL about .TV in 2007? Yes we have - still not interested.....

How about $25,000?? I could sell it for that much right now on the open market? NOT A DOT COM, NOT INTERESTED................

These attitudes still prevail - the question is for how much longer??

Carlton, that is an advantage for you, and you have taken advantage of that fact. In your signature you have some really great names with my personal favorite being Manhattan.mobi. I have a similar thought process in that i have bought names in 3s for some of my real estate names, buying the dot com, the dot mobi, and the dot tv. Even if you use the .com, having the other extensions can create nice sections for a site IMO.

Millers while I agree wth Carlton's assertions 100 % in the world of finance and lending money those are certainly .com playgrounds. No one else is invited

EDUCATION.tv will be huge for you IMO you don't need those guys

You're damn right!!! I was just flabbergasted and sat staring at the phone after the call was over and asked myself - DID THAT CONVERSATION JUST TAKE PLACE??!!!

Not for long James :)

I had a conversation with someone Millers who is a big dot com guy who wanted to talk to Domain Capital about $$$ they told him they only accept Appraisals from Moniker nowhere else. He said what about SEDO or Afternic No Only Moniker. Now I like Moniker but there could easily be collusion there , not saying there is but the potential exists. Domain Capital to Moniker appraise low ( AGAIN NOT SAYING THIS IS HAPPENING ) He told me he had a domain appraised that makes $2,000 to $5000 a month parked, it was appraised for $89,000 he was like we paid $110,000

That last sentence is so much right. I had figures from MediaPost to support that. I will have to dig to get those numbers. Even in Canada, it was estimated that a good % of ad spending is moving away from television to Internet.

Will dig shortly for the numbers and source.

I have alot of faith in .tv as I am seeing more and more commercials with .tv sites being advertised not to mention all the great sites already developed. Just wish I would have gotten in a little earlier as I just started domaining 9 months ago.

Education.tv is money in the bank in a big way imo. And I know there are alot of excellent .tv names being held right here by np members. They will payoff in due time I'm certain. So good on ya's!

I only have one porn domain and it happens to be my only .tv also. xxxChannel.tv I dont even want it or like it, but I'll hold it for now and will be looking for some more non porn .tv investments this year.
