I find the REP for appraisals went too far, its enough to give a good pumped value of the domain to obtain some REP. If it continues, IMO the appraisal forum will suffer from it.

Values are becoming too high and the other problem, we see some user that registred in January 06 that have 4 or 5 green spots of REP !?!

Yes i second that, Rep is becoming worthless because of all this appraisal rep adding stuff.

Not sure whether this is the appropriate place to discuss this issue, but we do need to recognise it as a problem.

For me its here in the middle of those (REP+) threads the best place, none of the guys appraising all REP+ topics go to the community forum.

Yeah you are right.

Maybe this was the best place to start this kind of thread.

I don't want to take it too seriously but REP will become worthless soon because of that

Here is what Mark has to say. On the other thread that I showed before.

Mark said:
I think Everyone is taking the Appraisals section a bit too serious myself ..... It is only opinions anyway and How many "Real" Buyers pay any attention to this type stuff ? The only buyers I've ever seen asking for an appraisal were "FAKE" buyers promoting their paid appraisals  -

Reputation points are not something I'd use to base a decision on either , I do take the Trader ratings pretty serious though.

Take it with a Grain of Salt and move on IMO ;)

See. So let it go I am also not taking it seriously.

I don't appraise domains based on rep points, only quality.

I completely agree with your point though.

i think all the reps from appraisal from should be disabled but the rep should be allowed in the rest of the areas of the forum

I ignore peoples trader rating and reputation.

Somebody has high trader rating may have done many deals for $10 or $20. Does this make him a better trader than somebody who has done one deal for $10,000?

Somebody may also have lots of green reputation boxes because they paid for appraisals.

I find some of the most helpful and informed members have low ratings.

Also when I reply to posts in the appraisal section I normally try to offer creative ideas on what a domain could be used for or who the domain could be marketed to.

I think this is a lot more helpful then just quoting 'Reg. Fee' or '$xxx.'

I totally agree with the above. But here's the problem. I posted a thread with a few domains, didn't mention rep. Response? **** all. I list another thread and include (+rep) in the title, and there are about 15 responses

Maybe it is better to use NP$ as an incentive for appraisals instead of REP+

Correct. Now there should be a new trend like NP$ incentive for perfect appraisals. Not inflated ones.

People just go on saying $XXXXXXX to get reps. It is insane. Do proper appraisals. Don't be afraid to say that the domain is a bad one if it is a bad one.

Some people are afraid to say it. They think this will get them a red rep for it.

But who cares. In end if you are correct you will win.

I think that the rep system should be disabled. We have certain users^ going into the chat room and begging for rep.

And we have certain users^ who can't keep their nose out of others business.
They even sell their own sig space for NP$'s and are making comments for others reputation. :hehe:

Even if they are not on staff.

See the last two days stats. All the threads with rep in it has got appraisals and other thread just die away.

I dont see what the problem is with the actual appraisal system here at NP. (http://namepros.com/appraisals.php) No rep or anything involved, easy to submit etc. I dont see why more people use it.

I personally think this forum is pointless when we have the system ive linked to above which works well in itself.

And yes it is True, with Thread names like BlahBlahBlah.com (REP+) you will get more views/appraisals. The accuracy of these appraisals however is something to be desired for.

people like to feel they are getting "something" even if it's rep or np to reply.

Hopefully most people would reply with a well thought out response instead of just xx / xxx if dev'd

and does it really matter? You will find that most appraisals on all the things throughout your lifetime are full of crap. My house appraisal (since it was ordered by me for my loan) = full of crap value. Appraisal by home buyer = full of crap value.
Appraisal of my wife's wedding ring for insurance purposes = crap.

So basically I am saying the appraisal section is full of crap but I still like posting in it and asking for appraisals :)

And cool -> and just learned they have an appraisal section

PS: Can I have some rep please

I think the 'Big Question' is - When you post a name for Appraisal, what are you really looking for?

Are you just looking for someone to say, "Nice Name $xxx - $x,xxx." just to make you feel good or boost your ego?

Are you looking for ideas of whom your domain could be marketed for sale?

Are you looking for ideas to develop the name?

In my opinion, a domain or websites market value or sale price is down to major factors. How much effort you put into marketing or contacting end users, and a good bit of luck.

At the end of the day, just look at how many 'Crap' names have been turned into great websites.

Whoever would have thought MillionDollarHomePage.com would have value if appraised before development?
