If a big company wants to buy your domain name, how and who approaches you?
The domain is not listed for sale. In general, do large companies approach you through Sedo / domain brokers?

Thanks

Phone or some kind of hidden email address from what I have seen.

Become a detective :) and search, search search on the info that you have.

In my case, they did not bother to cover their tracks - an employee contacted claiming to be a "poor student" . This is one of the largest financial websites in India, they seem to think a domain owner does not have basic internet research skills.

well, are you sure he isn't buying it for himself? I also recently was contacted by "a poor student" who doesn't want to pay more than $100 for a name, but he seems legit. maybe that is your case too?

Maybe, but I have checked his other domain regs, there is a pattern which seems fishy. I think he is a proxy for some one else.
Mr "poor student" is a Senior Interactive Designer at xyz company .
This is a premium letter LLL.in . I am not interested in selling the domain, I have got offers earlier, let's see what happens.

Me too, have been recently contacted by a "Poor'' company (which sell their product in major retail stores) with $200 offer for the generic name of their product. I've counted back with the reasonable price but never heard from them. Well, I guess when they wake up in a year or two the price for the domain would hardly be the same.

The last big company I sold a great LLL.IN to announced their intention and the negotiation was very smooth.
I have been tossed the 'poor student' or other line by other prominent individuals/companies for LLL.IN.

Thanks for your inputs, seems to be a common practice. If you refuse to sell, do these companies take any action against you?

Lol, contact you thru Sedo.

Not bashing Sedo here but most auction houses have millions of names and only sell a dozen or so a day, Sedo has nine million names for sale. In a nutshell your odds are slim selling only thru auction houses.

How most find the owner of a name is thru a who is search. That is why for the life of me I don't understand why so many fall for the "privacy" option when they reg a name. Make your "who is" public and if a big company wants your name they will find you .

I just sold a name for $1,000 to a big company and they made a simple phone call to me and I had the cash a few days after the phone call. Think about it, if you want to sell a car, you provide your phone number don't you?

I have sold as many names thru the who is as in auction houses. So I make it plain as day how to get a hold of me. Privacy is good for places like Godadi, ( they get the cash each year for the privacy) but if you want to sell names don't make who is private.

The problem in India is that some internet companies are very vicious, they have launched a DDOS attack on my websites, may be to get me sell the domain at a low price.

Although he's a Senior Interactive Designer, maybe he's also a student & gets a crap salary in his job. Therefore he classes himself as a "poor student" :hehe:
