Best Width For a Website

What width are you currently using when designing sites?

940px, 960px; 1600px?

im still really old school and use 770 as my width - i'm not sure why. im certain there're like... 2 people left who still use 800x600 resolution.

I usually do my designs on 900 x 900 or 1000 x 900 (1000 most of the time as its firts on my 22 inch perfectly)

That's tricky because site visitors use screens with different resolutions. I usually try to make the site readable and usable by everyone, so I go for 800 width. For mini sites, I go for 600.

About 6 years ago, my width used to be between 700 to 800px. Now i use 950px and above.

I still use around 770 myself just to be sure it fits in the screen width for people still using 800x600 in the screen res.

I use only 980. I don't know why but I think it's enough for all kind of websites. I don't bother to search for a perfect width, because 980 is the best, for all websites.

Nowadays 1024 screen width is quite common - 960 width is idea for me. I will keep it to a minimum so a visitor doesn’t have to keep scrolling left and right.
