apart from download.com and zdnet and tucows and softpedia,what are some other popular software download sites that have shareware and freeware? And which ones do u use the most?

Those are all great sites to get software from . I usually prefer downloads.com and occasionally go to zdnet, but a couple other good ones are:

My fave ever is filehippo.com, they only show the hip and "in" freewares. Plus, they have an update checker that checks if you've got the latest version of the softwares you have.

Yes one of the best place to find some really good resources. I always hang out on sourceforge.net and check out freshmeat.net for the opensource projects.

If readymade code examples and other things are needed then Planet-source-code.com is also a good place
