Hey everybody.. a brand new NamePros member here asking a simple question:
-In your experience, where and how is the best place to sell domain names?

I have collected a small collection of domain names and I feel that it is time to unload them. I have a little over a dozen names, with a variety of quality and extensions. These domains range from single word, short acronym, and just downright interesting names.

I've recently parked these domains with Sedo--but with little success. As a collection they only generate a few hundred views a month--resulting in a few bucks. By researching past/similar sales and general evaluation tools, I've estimated most of the domains to be worth a few hundred to a few thousand dollars a piece. My domains have been on GoDaddy auctions for months, with thousands of cumulative views and even some offers.

Above and beyond all, the domain names are mainly brandable. They would suit businesses, or just be an asset to a large portfolio. However, as stated above, the domains range. I also have a domain with tons of backlinks and constant traffic because a few years back, it was generating half a million+ views a month.

I know I have options--which is the most difficult part. With so many domain websites claiming "top dollar earnings with low commissions" I am just lost. In a perfect world, I wish I could just have a broker take them off my hands and use their expertise to get me top dollar. I'm nervous to put these in a definite 7-day auction, Buy-Now, or otherwise because I want real value for my names. I'm not really interested in developing and marketing the domains as a content-based website. I am eager to sell but not just to undersell myself.

ANY input is greatly appreciated. I am open to any and all suggestions. Your experience with different websites, different selling methods, and stories are welcomed.

Thanks in advance!

Where are you parking these domains? Sedo? You should park them at Voodoo. You will definitely earn more money from parking them at Voodoo.

Now to your question. I think the first thing you need to do is decide your selling price for each of these domains. without that, you are never going to sell any of these domains. You should put your domains for sale at these buy now prices on Sedo, Afternic, GoDaddy. Personally, for me, GoDaddy has been my best venue of the three. If you employ a broker they want exclusivity, so you would need to take them down from these sales venues. Remember if any domains sells, then to quickly remove it from the other sales venues.

If you don't get any sales, you need to ask why? Always you can find cheaper alternatives to your names. Even regfee names sometimes. So you might consider lowering you expectations/prices. If you bought these domains for regfee, maybe that is what they are worth? If you paid good money for them, then they might be worth something. If these domains are tailored towards people, you probably won't get top-dollar for them. If these domains are tailored towards businesses, you could search Google, mining it for prospective buyers. Just remember each email to a prospect needs to be individual. If you send a bulk email, there is a good chance you will get labeled as a spammer.

Some domains will never sell. What it comes down to aside from your pricing/venue, is the quality of the names themselves.

Everyone thinks what they have is gold, up until the point they drop them. Take a hard look at your domains, and perhaps let a trusted member of this forum give you their opinions over pm, and as Stub suggested, you may want to lower your expectations/prices.

Keep in mind, selling your domains (via any venue), is the exception rather than the norm and some people wait years before the right offer comes along.

Stub and razor, I really appreciate the replies.

I've never heard of VooDoo, and am checking them out at the moment. As for expectations trust me--I know I'm not going to be a millionaire off the lot of my domains. But just like with everything; be it cars, houses, or antiques--we would just like to get as much as possible! Being that maybe I just need to get the domains better evaluated and priced appropriately.

Anyone have any good suggestions for domain appraisal tools or advice on where to get domains properly price tagged?
