to all those that have invested/wasted money with 3d domains

have you seen the latest BestBuy commercials

they have a truck outside this family's home and on the side of the truck is an image of a
"4D TV"

it's the promotion of their buy back program for outdated electronics

if you have some 3d names, better off-load em asap

:)

So you think that BestBuy will kill the 3d products on companies like Sony, Samsung, Sharp..

If they trying to go against those companies some of them will buy BestBuy and will rename it to WorstBuy :D

Aww, go on then, i'll take the bait.

The US is, unusually, way behind the rest of the world when it comes to realising the potential of this revamped and dramatically improved technology.
Look at where the smart money is being invested.

Don't get sucked in by some warped idea from a marketing rep who comes from what is basically a bargain basement poundshop. :imho:

the killer is

if viewers start to "think" about the purchases they made, or items they plan on purchasing....these type of commercials may cause them to pause.

they may start thinking.. "hey, if i buy this 3d tv now, how soon will 4d be out"?

and "how much will bestbuy give me when i return it"?

consumers will start to figure the savings if any and benefits of buying now or waiting.

not that they didn't before, but this adds a new equation

imo...

The problem is,

wait for it,

the 4th dimention is TIME.

Until timetravel is cracked, there won't be a 4D anything.

Every month, year there is a new technology.

With your logic people have to stop buying and wait till when? Till they die?

Today I learned something new: in the 1930s the Nazis did produce a 3D movie and there were experiments in the 1920s too. It's not like the stuff is suddenly fashionable :)

The idea of 3D is neat, for movie theaters...

Of my group of friends/family I would say over half either dont like the 3D movies OR the 3D movies give them headaches...

I remember going to disney world 15 years ago and they had 3D movies, they were fun, and a nice commodity.

I personally don't see my myself ever buying a 3D TV, as it gives my wife headaches.. It is a fad...

This is what my grandfather told me long time ago for the first TV's. He didn't want to buy a TV because of headaches...And after few years the technology become more better and now he has 2 color TV's. The 3D (glasses, whiteout glasses, holo...) just need more time.

but one CO. with a truck sign will kill it?

Interesting opinion .....

4-D is including physical effects (i.e. movement of chairs, sudden gusts of wind, sound) with a 3-D film. They are not referring to the literal 4th dimension, which, as another NP member pointed out, is time.

Well 3D movies are just starting to fully roll out. 3D television content (not 3DTV sets)is slowly happening. so that would be one next place to go.

Movies still work in 2k resolution, TV still maxes out at 1080p, but there are formats being developed that are much larger in size (even larger than IMAX). So greater resolution on both fronts is a potential next step for both film and television. It won't happen soon, but it will happen.

Right now 3D requires you to wear glasses. There will be a new generation of 3D where you don't need glasses. That should be out sooner rather than later actually. I think that is the next step you'll see, even before an increase in resolution.

Holographic film/TV might someday happen. So you could get images really projected out from the TV or theater screen to bring you into the universe that you're watching. I don't expect that anytime soon, but holographic technologies are in R&D. Whether they'll amount to anything though is yet to be seen.

And also, I think you'll get more interactivity. So things like Ps3 game Heavy Rain (but done better). Gaming and TV/Film are going to become some kind of hybrid form of entertainment. You will engage in the viewing experience like nothing that exists right now. I could see a push for that within the next decade possibly.

Funny you happen to mention that since it usually takes new technology a decade to become standard, I remember walking past a shop years ago back in 2000 and seeing a HDTV costing thousands of pounds, they are becoming standard now but it usually takes a hell of a long time.

Look at the CDi all those years ago (1988?), it took nearly 20 years for DVDs to become the standard.

Just because a new technology is coming does not mean it will arrive tomorrow lol

the best buy commercial is a joke to show how fast technology changes so you can eventually sell your stuff back to them. don't go register a bunch of 4D domains lol

many jokes are filled with truths, that are expressed in a humorous way to make you laugh.

let's see how fast this tech changes

I don't see how 4D can have an effect when 3D doesn't have content to show for it's own or slowly progressing. It could be just a marketing tactic.
