hey guys

i spotted a domain recently (tampananies.com) that had expired and had been weighing up whether to pick it up or not. to cut a long story short, i thought it looked good in the end but when i have gone to reg it, its already been snapped up by someone else. look like the guy who's picked it up has quite a few other domains so am figuring it was worth getting.

so my question is: do people think this was a good name to get and are there times when you should not spend ages checking a domain out if it looks like a winner & follow your gut?

I guess it's tampanannies.com ?

Sounds like a good domain.

Only with dropping domains IMO when there is a high chance that someone else may get it before you.

Otherwise take your time to do your full due dilligence :xf.smile:

yeah it is tampanannies.com sorry - typing too fast! i should have worked quicker & snapped it up i think as seems a good one thats got away.

thanks for the advice - it had dropped but , being new to this game, i think i just dallied too long as still not 100% confident of when a name is good or not

id say it depends on your reg costs.

if you genuinly think its a good name, and it will go fast, then I'd risk ยฃ5 or whatever. If its crap, you lost however much reg fee. If its a winner, then who knows how much you could have profitted.

A couple more things to consider.

If you can grace-delete without hassle, then you may go ahead and reg the domain.

Otherwise, the upside on new regs is usually low and it's more likely that you'll be out of $10 than have lost an opportunity (Notice how Godaddy tries to urge you to make a fast, uneducated decision to buy : "Buy it before someone else does")

Also the odds than someone else beats you to it is very, very low. (Unless it's drops, or a newly coined term you just heard on TV etc)

it was a directory in 2011, but since it expired, you have to wonder why.

is it worth it, in an attempt to catch residual traffic, to develop or resell?

imo...

It sounds okay. That is the type of name you can flip for around $300-$500. In addition, Tampa has worked very well for me in my GEO sales ventures. While cities like Fresno and Sacramento have not, Tampa is a good one.
