It's unclear how this name would be used.

Did you register this because of the new Beacon radio technology?

Yes of course. and Australia has a nice size population. and I just assumed it would have a market for beacons. A company selling beacons in Australia would be interested in this domain. maybe? or someone who just wants to create a news website about beacons in Australia. The advertising alone could be an income generating solution.

If Australia is an issue then how about my other domains? ASIABEACONS.COM AND BEACONEUROPE.COM? BETTER?

Getting technology niche domains right is very hard to do. Just take a look at the domains beacon tech companies are currently using and see whether yours are similar.

Also, take a look for decent sales in [other new tech] + [country], are there many?

Beacons are going to be big business, but that does not necessarily mean the domains are going to be sought after, that depends on multiple factors such as consumer ad spend needed to sell the technology.

I see I see good info. so what's the least I can get for these then?

If they were mine, I would wait for the Beacon technology market to develop a little before selling.

well I think the tech is here already I just recently sold Fleetbeacon.com to Fleetcomplete.com because they contacted me because they wanted it. They sell beacons for company fleets of trucks or cars or field workers. Sometimes I wonder though if maybe the appraisals on here ( no disrespect) are appraisals from resellers who are of the mindset that ok yes my domains are less than a year old and no traffic yadda yadda. it's worthless which in turn would make a domain owner do the normal thing a dummy would do which is to (and trust me I considered it FOR A MINUTE) to just post this domain in the Namepros auction for $1 because it's appraised as worthless. lol again with respect I wonder if perhaps the low appraisals serve the only one purpose which is for the betterment of the namepros auctions so that people will just put up their domains in the auctions so that users will have a "great experience" getting to buy great domains for cheap?

Can anyone chime in on this?

I've done some research about this and maybe I need to research some more. But can anyone explain to me how after looking at dnsaleprice.com for domains sold with say the topic of NFC.There were domains sold which were domains not even a year old which sold for $3000-$5000 over at Sedo.

Are those just flukes?and far from a typical thing?

I wonder though if paying the $60 for a SEDO auction can fetch a higher price from say an end user? is that good risk or bad risk? because I'd have to risk whether or not the auction will sell for $200 or more just to make some profit.

Anyone's input is greatly appreciated.

Always trust your own judgement.

FleetBeacon.com is a good name, and much better than BeaconAustralia.com. Learning and building up good judgement will make you a better domainer.

You will struggle to sell beacon names at the moment, the tech is not mainstream yet, although I believe it will be in a few years time

I live in Oz and most Australian companies use .com.au so your end-user numbers are limited

Yes, this is true. I can't, for the life of me, understand why. It's like they don't know there's a world outside of Australia. A good friend of mine, who's very well versed in internet/technology, moved from the US to AUS and opened a business with .com.au when he could have gotten the .com. I just don't get it, .com.au is so spammy and unprofessional looking.

It makes perfect sense, most of the businesses are doing business within Australia only anyway so they dont need the .com, if they are global corp or really big corps (like a BHP Billiton or Telstra), then it makes sense and those companies own the .com and .com.au anyway

Most people in Aus will type in .com.au when typing in the url, so it doesnt make sense to build your business on the .com when thats the case

I cant understand how you say it looks unprofessional and spammy looking, would you say thats the same for .de, .co.uk, .fr, .es etc and every other cctld? Its what has been used here since the beginning and its what everyone knows, the same for .co.uk in the UK and .de in Germany

Your friend is indeed smart using the .com.au, that is what is used here and he won't miss out on any traffic to the .com

When you have a domain with .com.au, all you have is a subdomain or second level domain. That's why it looks spammy. Even if I was in the UK, I'd never use .co.uk, either. .DE, .FR, .ES are ok but why make a domain unnecessarily longer if you have the option not to? (in my friend's case where the .COM was available) I can maybe understand if you're using something like AdSense and you are a house cleaning service, where you wouldn't want click traffic from New York City. But, in 2015, I think there are more businesses that deal with customers on a global level. I understand that .COM.AU has been used since the beginning and it looks like it, too. However, it's 2015 now.

its the top level domain here in Oz, why would use .com if noone else does...you will lose out if you use the .COM, thats why noone does, Im sure its been tried many times

Same in the UK, most companies .co.uk as their primary site, its not about making a domain longer or shorter, it about making it a success, you have to think of your clients/customers, no what you think "looks better"

To the OP, maybe hold onto it for a bit and see what happens, I have a few beacon names too (BeaconCenter.com) and believe this tech will take off very soon

Good luck
