Guys, we're seriously considering a moratorium on political threads, seeing how it tends to divide instead of unite our community. But before we go that route, we'll first try strict implementation of this longtime rule:

Be Polite! - Do not post any messages that are obscene, vulgar, sexually-orientated, hateful, threatening, or otherwise violative of any laws. Be polite! Debate and heated discussions are okay, however posting rude, attacking, insulting, profane and uncalled for comments are not allowed and may result in the permanent termination of your account.

I realize that there were many past posts that were blatantly impolite, and yet ignored or allowed to proceed. Moving forward, we shall impose official warnings for each infraction of the above rule, even if you are only replying to a previous insult. Earn enough warning points in a spcified period, and you might actually earn a ban.

It doesn't matter how long you've been around, or how good/bad you were in the past. From this point on, we shall be implementing this rule strictly, and on everyone!

Some notes (I'll keep adding as they come up):
- Placing swear words in asterisks, such as a** or f***, would still be considered insulting if addressed to someone on NP. So saying "Hey so-and-so, you're an a**!" is not ok, but saying "So-and-so politician is an a**" is ok.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.

Politics and religion- Maybe we shoul'dnt mix Alchol & Namepros together.
Or we could open a NamePros pub were we can all brawl. After all fists should hurt more than a couple of buttons pushed on a keyboard, but I guess not in this day and age.

I, for one, have thought about this before, but decided it was a bad idea, as it is basically encouraging fights and rifts in the community, which isnt a good idea IMO!

On the other hand, it can allow for stress relief. Just create a flash game and
shoot the member's avatar. :D

Hopefully that's only for stress relief. The really bad ones, well...kick 'em out!

Normally this can be resolved with a Debate Forums specifically for political, social, and religious debate. Normally a "debate" forums has leeway for argument. This keeps the rest of the site cleaner.

Moratorium on specific threads

I think its ok for someone to express his opinion, but theres no need for arguments etc. The moratorium is a good idea i think.

I've been giving it some serious thought lately

...and I think it's time we (the humans) start a world federation of religions, which holds as its central tenet that your religion must be based on Peace in order to be a member. (I think all this business of waging war in the name of religion is a lot of crap...) Maybe such an organisation would make better progress in that domain than the United Nations?

oh, and maybe we can start the movement here, by being a peaceful community of Web people?

best wishes to all in this period between Ramadan and Channukah / Christmas and the New Year :)

not a good idea for me as well, not unless we're interested for trolls to come in here and make namepros a breeding ground for trolls, just like what happened to the good old days newsgroup, have you read lately a good news from them, most of them are flames coming from trolls.

How many people do you know that changed their position on a topic because they were insulted?

more we try to see bad things in people, less time we have left to love them :(
Why can't we just love and try to understand each other?!
I think peace benefits all good people.
And may be at least here the law will protect them?!
:hehe:

Ppl aliens are coming... :alien: :alien: :alien:

Discussing the users rather than the topic, are we? Looks as if we're in need of a resident a** moderator. :kickass:

As long as everyone agrees to vote for Gene Simmons for President, there shouldn't be any heated debates at all: he's the obvious choice!
