To all that used the 1.99 domains with quick podcast or the like, go disable the auto renew (unless you want to receive a surprise charge on your CC). Some of them auto renew monthly!

Does anyone know whether they'll refund these (unwanted) auto renewals?

Depends how many you did - but if the renewals are within a short amount of time - they typically will refund. Call up the billing dept 480-505-8855 - be very nice, if they cant refund - ask to speak with the Supervisor and plead your case, if youve been excessive, then its your own fault - if its just a few - they should take care of you.

Well, it stands to reason that depending on the service you bought in order to get the domain name for $1.99, it may renew monthly...

I turn off autorenew on every domain I purchase.

I find it is hard to locate the menu to disable the auto-renew

It is very hard to do anything on Godaddy's site these days (except see advertisements).

But really people. Many of you know that Godaddy has to pay $6.25 each for .com names. Then there are all the costs of doing business. When they offer domains for $1.99 it is not an excuse to scam them. They are trying to encourage people to use their other services and hoping to make up the difference on those services.

Turn the situation arround - how would you like it if people were exploiting a loophole in your business that caused you to lose money? And yes I know that this has been going on a while and GD has not stopped it, and they surely must know.

First of all that is an unfair criticism of the GD website. Disabling autorenew is quite straightforward: myaccount/payments and renewing items/tick item/autorenew/disable/
Secondly, the loopholes were not an accidental business error, they were a business strategy to draw in domainers and make some future money on renewals, consolidation etc.

Are you telling me you ordered a service without knowing the detail? It is not a surprise charge at all, if you bothered to read before you bought you would have noticed the monthly charge.

Godaddy is well aware of these so called loopholes, one of the biggest money makers is people buying things without reading the details and end up with monthly charges without knowing....alot of people do not even catch these charges until months later...
