Hey Everyne,

I originally posted this in the Newbie section but it was suggested I post here.

My original post:

I found this website and was hoping this would be the place to get some help with my domain. I own a number of domains but I have a question about one in particular. It's a great domain name that I have owned since 1994. I am the original owner. I used it for my business and now that I am no longer doing that particular business, I am looking for other options for my domian. This is what I am thinking:

1 - Sell it outright if I can get a lot of money for it (6 figures)
2 - Rent it
3 - use it to generate an income with ad sales??

I would appreciate some advice on this. If I try to sell it, do I go the auction route? Should I just try to contact companies directly? I've been contacted a number of times but I've always turned down the offers. I've tried the domain parking route as well with a and wasn't very happy with the results.
Please help out if you can. It seems like everyone on this forum is very knowledgeable.

Thanks!

Stacey

Elaborate what?

DNscoop or Escrow not being safest?

ESCROW is not 100% safe, in fact even SEDO had a recent problem with ESE.com I believe.
I'll digg a few glitches and try to post them here later on.

Hold the domain

The domain market is not at its best right now. If you can hold the domain, I would suggest that. If you are going to sell it and it sounds like you are not familiar with the auction process etc, I would suggest you take a low value domain and sell it. The experience of going through the process will be invaluable when you go to sell this domain.

Consider finding a company to develop the site for you. You would then share revenue with them while still holding onto ownership of the site. Use a lawyer to make sure you are not taken advantage of. Some of these companies will supply the ideas, web development and management in return for a portion of the revenue. Beware any that use tricks that may give the domain a bad reputation or have it banned from the search engines.

I would strongly advise you to consider developing it yourself. Come up with 5 ideas and bring them to a high quality web design company and have them work with you through the testing and development process. Gift baskets seems the most obvious. If you dont want to run the day to day business, hire someone to run it for you. You could also partner with a gift basket business and have them do the heavy lifting or even rent the site to them.

Dont cash out without seriously considering your options.

I know gift baskets seem like the obvious choice but I've done that for so long that the passion is gone. I definitely will not develop it myself to do gift baskets again. That's not even an option.

Thanks for all of your input. I appreciate it.
