Ok so I was wondering if I were to backorder with Godaddy would it cost me $18.99 no matter what happens? If I get it or not.

I couldn't find anywhere about getting your money back if you lose, just the fact you are able to transfer and backorder another domain.

Thanks

You can transfer it to another name.

Yes their slots are assigned on first come first served basis.
If they don't get the name (which is very likely ;)) you can use your credit toward another domain backorder. From my experience they are good for catching .us domains and for grabbing names left by the tasters. For the rest => snapnames & pool.

There are certain circumstances, very rare, when a GoDaddy backorder is a good option. However, they can't even capture they're own domains after they've been through their TDNAM auction.

It isn't much different to the other registrars/auctions if you think about it. It's just there is much longer between the auction end and the start of Pending Delete. Auction end at GoDaddy is expiry+42. Only the original owner can redeem the domain until it goes to Pending Delete on expiry+72. Once it's in Pending Delete it's going to delete and will be at the mercy of the dropcatchers (including GoDaddy... who can't effectively compete). Even if you place a backorder in those last 30 days, they don't capture the domain before it goes into Pending Delete. They use your backorder to try to capture the domain when it drops. Crazy! If you place your backorder when it's at auction, you will capture the domain when the auction ends (if it doesn't sell). With other registrars/auctions this time is compressed to about 0-3 days.

Now where's it at?

but if no one bids we can still get it for you.
OK, so do I buy it,
yes,
Done right?
NOT
now where is it...
Oh at ma and pa registry.
What a Friggen joke!

Hi,

If you are going to order backorders with GoDaddy on a regular basis,
you'd be better off joining their discount division, BlueRazor.com.

It costs $9.95 a year but Backorders are just $12.95.

Whether you place a backorder thru GoDaddy, WildWestDomains (or any of their Resellers), or BlueRazor, only one backorder can be placed per domain.

Therefore first come, first served.

GoDaddy has a poor record of capturing dropped domains but sometimes a Taster will grab a domain and then drop it and GoDaddy (or WildWest or BlueRazor) may then grab it.

This has happened for me so wait 5 days before you transfer a failed backorder to another domain.

Patrick

Of course, once the name is in pending-delete status it will be deleted by the registry, not the registrar. Then it's a free for all and clearly godaddy is a very weak catcher when it comes to .com/.net.

Thanks for the advice, without knowing that I may miss out on some good opportunities... although it sounds like id be missing out on a lot with GoDaddy full stop. Cheers
