Backorder Pending Delete or Just Wait?

Hi,

There's a domain I'm interested in that is now in Pending Delete status. It's an enom domain and is listed on NameJet as having a closing time for bids in less than 24 hours. No one has bid on it. It's also listed on SnapNames as order by tomorrow's date. No bidders.

So, do I pay $60 and backorder it? Or, do I wait, let it drop and just be here trying to buy the name myself once it drops?

Obviously it's not a premium name. It's one I want, though.

Backordering is significantly more money. But...what do you think?

Thanks

It really depends on the name. It is hard to answer your question without knowing it. But, of course, I do not want you to tell me either.

However, if it is a good or at least decent name and you are planning just to hand-register it, without using any software to do it, you are at risk of losing it. There are many names that no one backorders, but there are many people waiting to catch them the second they drop.

If it's one you really want, pay the money, don't risk it. You could try and get it yourself, but it you don't, you will be kicking yourself. There are also cheaper places like Pheenix, that's just 18.95 or the one mentioned below, Dynadot.*

It really depends just how badly you "want" it. Are you willing to wait for the drop and risk losing it? If it's one that you feel you really want the best way to be sure is backordering it. Even if its with a smaller backorder place like Dynadot.

dont risk it, you dont know what others are after, my advice thou is if you plan on backordering with nj wait till closer to cut off time

If you really want it you should backorder it. Would be a simple decision for me.

all of the above is sound advice

If you want it, you should definitely backorder it, if you will be put out if you don't capture it. If it is a domain probably that nobody else is backordering at SnapNames/NameJet, you could probably get away with backordering it at Dynadot $7.85 and/or Pheenix $18.95. If you see it backordered anywhere, you should backorder it at the same venue as well as at alternative venues, because if an alternative venue catches it you won't have to go into an auction with anyone else. On the other hand you want to backorder it with wherever it is backordered so at least you would be in the auction if/when they capture it.

Ok, great! Thanks for all the quick advice.

Does DynaDot include registration? Or, do I register it after they catch it?

Update: I placed a last-minute backorder with DynaDot. It's no longer listed on NameJet. Name.com lists it as Taken when I try to hand register it there. That probably means nothing. I'm not seeing any competition on the other drop-catch sites. I think it'll be mine...but you never know.

Thanks again. I'll let you know

I am a bit confused here, i am assuming you are after a .com

1. nj cutoff time is 12pm est, so if u dont see it there it could be its after cut off
2. last minute dynadot? there is still an hour + to cut off
3. name.com lists the name as taken because it hasnt dropped yet
4. do yourself a big favor and also order it at pheenix

For future reference, namejet and Snapnames will beat dynadot every time. You should always backorder with them first.

What does the Whois show?

whois still shows pending delete.

I said last minute because NameJet said there was only seven minutes until closing.

I'm heading to Pheenix now.

I've stopped backordering Pending Deletes at SnapNames because they get caught by NetSol partners and all the troubles there are changing nameservers and no auth codes when you want to transfer out. Not to mention their unintuitive and unfriendly Control Panel and their awful Support System. Time is money with the hours, days, weeks you spend on these things.

I do agree with your statement in principal. But I'm done with backordering Pending Deletes at SnapNames. I think you don't need to backorder at SnapNames unless there is an actual backorder placed at SnapNames. If there is, I now usually pass up on the domain because the experience at NetSol is so awful. But I usually will backorder the domain at a cheaper place just for the off chance that a miracle happens. It does just sometimes happen, but not often.

Update:

I Got It!!!

I got the domain through DynaDot. The best part about it is that it only cost about $8.00. Thank God I didn't go through NameJet...they wanted $60.00

Thank you to all of you for your help and guidance. As always, people who participate in forums come through.

Have a great weekend.

I tried to backorder it with Pheenix, but by the time I read the messages here and set up an account, it was too late. Minutes later, I got the message from DynaDot.

what was the domain? :D
I'd rather not say...I'm sure you understand. I will say that it's not anything most people would have been fighting for. Only a few of us would have had an interest. I have a name that is exactly like the one I got yesterday, but it is slightly longer because that's what I had to do because the one I got yesterday was taken. Now I own it! I'm happy.

Thanks again everyone.
