Today, I'll be analyzing the .ax ccTLD which nobody really hears much about to see if I can uncover some data-points that may assist with others .ax extension research.

.ax is the ccTLD for Åland, an autonomous province of Finland. It is managed by Ålands landskapsregering[1], or Åland's Government.[2] They manage the registry services through "whois.ax".[1] [3]

Thanks for the added info. I think i saw one approved registrar in their list for 30 euros per year, but it was email contact only, so couldn't confirm.

The 32€ you found is a decent price to gamble with. Probably won't be available long, but a quick check a minute ago showed domains like "Fund.ax" available to register still.

Doubt it will still be after too many see this post at the 32€ you found. Lol

Another check revealed 3 letter words still available at the time of this post like: Bat.ax, Run.ax, Ban.ax, Dot.ax, and Lot.ax.

Probably not for long, but was interesting.

I almost grabbed Dot.ax, but couldn't get all the checkout pages to translate to English, so passed, in case I missed terms I couldn't read.

Update: I decided to use Netim to register Dot.ax (Since it was all in English for me) and my registration is now in pending (In Progress) status. Netim allowed me to change the NameServers at the time of the purchase and I used NamePros parking/landing page nameservers.

Registration cost was: $33 USD for 1yr

Hopefully it will get processed and work with NamePros landers within the next 48 hours so I can customize the landing page.

Note: I do have future plans for Dot.ax, but for now it will sit on a NamePros lander until I get more time to hammer everything out for it to be developed into something creative.

hmmm.. $30 is a decent price, but it would be more helpful if you had an (EN) English version (Maybe other languages too). Unless you are only catering to Mandarin and Putonghua dialects (no intention to expand), it's hard to reach a larger audience if they can't read your website, services, or terms.

For instance, I almost used Domainkeskus for my .ax registration, but their checkout process wasn't in English, like the main page translations were, so they lost my business and I ended up at Netim to register it.

Suggestion: Consider adding other languages that walk a potential buyer through the registration and domain management process. The backend dashboard should also have a version in other languages.

Update: I decided to use Netim to register Dot.ax (Since it was all in English for me) and my registration is now in pending (In Progress) status. Netim allowed me to change the NameServers at the time of the purchase and I used NamePros parking/landing page nameservers.
