RE: Autonomous & Driverless car domains

Seems like there's a lot of news lately, as recently as the last few days, of advances in driverless & autonomous cars. There are multiple auto makers getting ready to launch some form of these cars, and of course, Google is working on their project car.

I have a handful of domains related to this news & technology, and I am wondering if anybody else has any? Also, any spike in traffic to your domains, or news of sales???

This Self-Driving AI Is Learning to Drive Almost Entirely in a Virtual World

I don’t have to open the doors of AImotive’s white 2015 Prius to see that it’s not your average car. This particular Prius has been christened El Capitan, the name written below the rear doors, and two small cameras are mounted on top of the car. Bundles of wire snake out from them, as well as from the two additional cameras on the car’s hood and trunk.

Inside is where things really get interesting, though. The trunk holds a computer the size of a microwave, and a large monitor covers the passenger glove compartment and dashboard. The center console has three switches labeled “Allowed,” “Error,” and “Active.”

Budapest-based AImotive is working to provide scalable self-driving technology alongside big players like Waymo and Uber in the autonomous vehicle world. On a highway test ride with CEO Laszlo Kishonti near the company’s office in Mountain View, California, I got a glimpse of just how complex that world is.

Need a lift? Hop on the SOHJOA driverless robobus!
https://www.helsinkismart.fi/portfolio-items/sohjoa/

"SOHJOA is the driverless minibus which is transforming transport in Helsinki Smart Region. The electric driverless minibuses have been tested on public roads and passengers since autumn 2016 in Helsinki, Espoo and Tampere. They are cost – and energy-efficient vehicles transporting up to nine persons and they operate alongside normal traffic and commuters.

If it works in these hars conditions, it probably works everywhere
Finland is a pioneer in developing smart mobility services from smart apps to electric cars and driverless buses. The long distances and harsh winter climate require a particular know-how in the field of transport services. If a service functions well here, it is likely to function well elsewhere too.

It helps a lot too, that unlike most of the rest of the world, the Finnish law does not require vehicles on public roads to have a driver inside the vehicle. This peculiar detail has given Finland a substantial competitive advantage in developing and testing driverless robobuses compared to other markets.

“The robobuses offer a more flexible alternative to public transport when, for example, going home from the train station. The idea is to make public transport a more interesting option to taking the private car”, explains Harri Santamala, the SOHJOA Project Manager from Helsinki Metropolia University of Applied Sciences.

The robobus can run up to 40 km per hour but travels at an average speed of 11 km per hour. Its slow pace is a matter of security and also a challenge for other motor vehicles in traffic. Also, other commuters and vehicles on public roads are not predictable. However, the pilot phase of the project is aiming at looking at the challenges and solving them with practical approach that can be applied on Finnish roads and elsewhere..."

That name sold for like $1200 at namejet around October. Still very cheap at $2500. I own RoboticCarsInsure.com

General Motors plans commercial, autonomous robot-taxi service by 2019

https://www.gearbrain.com/general-motors-robo-taxi-service-2513992213.html

"In a direct challenge to Ford, Waymo and Uber, General Motors says it plans to launch fleets of fully-autonomous taxis in 2019.

The vehicles will not include a human driver, yet will be able to navigate themselves around the most complex of urban environments - where today's self-driving technologies struggle the most.

GM's robotic taxi roadmap is shorter than that of rival Ford, which has previously said it will have a commercial car produced without a steering wheel or pedals by 2021. Waymo, formerly a Google company and now operated by Google parent Alphabet, also expects to offer fully autonomous driving by the start of the next decade, along with Uber and Tesla.

Dan Ammann, president of GM, told investors on December 30 that the potential revenue from a single autonomous car working as a taxi is far greater than that of comparable cars sold by GM today. The robo-taxi could earn revenue in the "several hundred thousands of dollars" region, Ammann said, compared to the $30,000 average revenue earned from GM cars sold today..."

NVIDIA, ZF and Baidu Launch Industry’s First AI Autonomous Vehicle Computer for China

NVIDIA, ZF and Baidu today announced that they are creating a production-ready AI autonomous vehicle platform designed for China, the world’s largest automotive market.

At the opening press conference of CES 2018, NVIDIA founder and CEO Jensen Huang said that the collaboration is based on the new NVIDIA DRIVE Xavier™, ZF’s new ProAI car computer and Baidu’s Apollo Pilot, an autonomous driving product targeted for mass production.

“NVIDIA and Baidu have pioneered significant advances in deep learning and AI together over the last several years,” said Huang. “Now, together with ZF, we have created the first AI autonomous vehicle computing platform for China.”

China makes up 30 percent of the global passenger vehicle market. Each of the three companies brings unique technologies together to serve this massive opportunity.

MIT Is Pioneering an ‘Autonomous Bicycle’ and It’s Not Just For Lazy Cyclists

https://motherboard.vice.com/en_us/...us-bicycle-and-its-not-just-for-lazy-cyclists

"In a future world imagined by MIT researchers, you can summon a tricked-out driverless tricycle much like you would an Uber or Lyft car now. The lightweight shared-use bike would arrive wherever you are and off you go, as it takes you to your destination while you sit in its lone passenger seat.

Or, if you have a package that needs to be delivered, you could request the same bike and place the goods in an enclosed area on the vehicle and, without you at the wheel, it pedals away to the package’s destination..."

GM just revealed a fully autonomous electric car that doesn't have a steering wheel

No driver. No pedals. No steering wheel. Just seats and screens and doors that can close themselves. That's what riders will see when they get into one of General Motors' Cruise self-driving electric vehicles, scheduled to hit the road in 2019.

On Thursday, the automaker also stressed that the fully autonomous vehicle would emphasize safety — and went into great detail on the hows and whys, including redundant systems intended to replace a human driver.

On a conference call with reporters, GM President Dan Ammann said that the vehicle is the fourth generation of the vehicle to emerge from the carmaker's Cruise division. GM acquired what was then Cruise Automation, a Silicon Valley startup, in 2016.

"We're super excited to share this point in the journey," Ammann said.

The third generation, based on the Chevy Bolt, was showcased in San Francisco for the media late last year, so GM Cruise has been able to reveal four iterations in 18 months, Ammann said.

Ford wants to be the self-driving OS for the future of transportation

Ford unveiled its new self-driving “platform” on which its partners like Lyft, Domino’s Pizza, and Postmates — and even small- and medium-sized businesses — can tap into and reap the benefits of the auto giant’s fleet of autonomous vehicles. It’s an aggressive approach to the future of transportation, especially when taken with Ford’s other announcements today regarding its work with Qualcomm and its creation of something it calls the “Transportation Mobility Cloud.” In the simplest terms, Ford is tired of being just a car company; now it wants to be seen as an operating system for the future of mobility.
