Here’s a quick method to burn five grand in one move: register the domains of famous automotive makers.

In a Uniform Rapid Suspension decision against the domains Audi.auto and Audi.cars, the loss was substantial: these domains cost $2,888 dollars each to register, if not more.

Here is the verdict that was given:

The domain names are not used for bona fide offering goods or services. The websites display notices “website coming soon”. Complainant has not authorized Respondent, Sammy Quraan, to use its trademark “AUDI” or to register the domain names and Complainant is not affiliated with Respondent. Respondent is not commonly known by the domain name. According to the WHOIS information, the Registrant is Sammy Quraan. Use of the domain names for a “Under Construction” website” does not constitute legitimate or fair use. Thus, Respondent has no legitimate right or interest to the domain names pursuant to URS Procedure 1.2.6.2.”

Got to love the people with money and no sense when it comes to trademarks and domains.
Been argued here and on sites that hey, it is a new extension, so why can I not reg it?
Or hey, it was available to reg so obviously the company did not want it.

But think about this.....
If instead of Audi?
He had regged Saudi?
That I see as great to showcase Saudis and their cars (and trucks and camels and maybe wives).

Wow that's lots of cash to burn. Since Sammy Q. paid the domain names, hope Audi would not take advantage of paid domains. They had the Audi name back, but the .cars and .auto extension will remain not belong to them.

I think registrars or registries should refund some of Sammy Q. money? He paid for the domains for a year contact, but now he does not have the domains anymore. To avoid double.dipping. Just an opinion.

Get his money back? Why? He ignored the blatant trademarks and got what he had coming to him.

The industries has changed tremendously. If you have unlimited cash, you can trademark anything you wish; that's one advantage. Doing this, you will have that name for yourself as long as you wish.

Disappointing and disadvantage: the current people with the same name can not used the name anymore; neither to used it for their business purposes. "it is taken ". Also the future people will have to search the name before using it to a new born child. Big changes..

Respondent is not commonly known by the domain name.
If your real name is Johnathan Anastasio Audi?
Yes, you can use.
Just not to sell cars, links to cars, etal.

I'm pretty sure Audi is not going anywhere anytime soon as well thier Parents with enough cash on hand to squash anyone choosing to infringe . If you started a pizza business called Audi pizza and use Audi.pizza for your brand choice that would be another story.

Very true that he does not have name anymore; also does is not what he wish for. And that is the fact. So that situation was heard and done.

Now, switch to the fees. Sammy Q. paid the names for at least $5k? this is a lot. Registrars or registries has his money. So if the Audi want the name register to them, does Audi have to pay another $5k? If so this a total of $10k.

This if Audi will ever register the .car, .cars and .auto. in the first place. As I remember trademark holder was given special priority to registered .car, .cars and .auto before others can.

The real winner here is the registras and registries; they will get their money regardless of what the outcome of the situation...

I have no idea of what a buyer or seller was thinking at that time. What I was saying was that situation was done.

I guess big investment such over $k should include insurance. So if you ever lost your domains in any circumstances, it is covered by insurance. Guess what, this is a big business. Someone will steal this ideas ;)

This may sound like a stupid question, but is the domain name Undeveloped.net (currently for sale at HugeDomains.com) a TM infringement? I did a few searches on a couple of platforms and found nothing TM registered under the word "undeveloped". I don't plan on purchasing this ".net" domain, but would like to consider the idea of acquiring a new-tld for a personal (same use as Undeveloped.com) website / in relation to eg. landing pages for my own domains. Any expert opinions and advice is much appreciated. Thank you for your time.
