I grabbed this domain back in March when the great release went down with the DOT TV's (as well as OVER.TV, LOTS.TV, etc.)

Honestly I thought I had a goldmine here but the offers have been all but mindblowing. From offers to lease the domain for a few hundred a month to a few offers between $3K and $4.5K.....I'm disappointed.

Lawyers.TV went for $7601.00 on the SEDO auction but that was a pretty high profile and timing was everything and of course they were not accepting any submissions for the auction either :(

Any thoughts?

I hear the pain. I also thought I had won a corker. Not one offer so far. I guess I'm in it for the long haul!!!

If you have had an offer to lease the domain for a few hundred a month, do the math as to what that translates to over five+ years. If you want stick the payments into a discounted cash flow model and it likely still generates a phenomenal IRR (not sure what the acquisition cost was).

This sounds like a great deal to me. Why are you disappointed with that?

I think you'll perhaps find those prices may not be repeated. Though personally I would be contacting the winner of that auction. Based on lawyers.tv it should get 10k or so. Obviously though the market is saying otherwise.

It really depends on your investment. If you "only" received offers of $4k or $100's a month for something you picked up 3 months ago for $500 then I think you should get over the disappointment.

It's an interesting phenomenon.

If someone owns a lottery ticket for a $100 million draw and the numbers come up there is naturally a very high level of excitment and an emotionally positive barrage.

When that person then finds out that there are two winners and their winning will only be $50 million ... the overwhelming feeling is one of disappointment. It's quite absurd, and thats for certain...

So.... When you're chewin on life's gristle

In the long term, yes the return could indeed be nice if at about $2500 per year and then an option to buy to the leasing party.

Most likely my underestimating or overestimating as it may be the value of such great domain name when i found the jewel.

Thanks for the reply :D

At the time my thinking was if I enter into a rental agreement obviously I would have been obligated to abide by the terms (lets say 12 months) but on the other hand I was thinking this name is going to sell for $XX,XXX tomorrow :bah:

I agree at this time, it does appear that the window may have closed a bit on .TV TRAIN although there are still some decent amounts being received for the extension which is a good thing.

Thanks

From that data it is pretty clear that attorneys is more popular globally (aswell as in the US).

only in the domain world could you hear something like this, lol!

you might actually have a goldmine in hand but why expect that someone else is going to offer a fortune for it? until the supply of great .tv names is extinguished there wont be a ton of huge transactions. if you really want to become wealthy you should turn this into a fremium directory slash referral engine. asap!

Both are popular terms and should have similar values. Overall though, I have done better selling "Attorney" domains in the past and it also carries a slightly higher CPC than "Lawyers".

Attorneys.tv is an excellent domain, but at the same time it is a .TV which has a limited ceiling. Exactly how much were you expecting to sell it for?

I think in the US they are mostly interchangeable - though technically I think one is trained in the law and gives advice (lawyer) and the other is legally representing another (attorney).

From what I've seen the sites in the US sometimes stick to this convention:

"The Attorneys of X and Y company will represent you for Personal Injury cases. If you would you like to talk to one of our many Lawyers...."

Of course the rest of the World is probably different ... I would expect Attorney.TV = Lawyer.TV even though to *me* personally Lawyer sounds more money grubbing ... but then if I had a slip n fall I might LIKE that :)

"Attorneys" looks to be 50% more popular which I think should be reflected in the value.

I think he was expecting something in line with the lawyers.tv auction, which I think is reasonable to assume, except for the fact that the auction was perhaps the culmination of a number of positive factors which may not be repeated.

ie

-auction was shortly after big announcement of big changes
-alot of interest in the extension at the time
-names offered for sale by the registry
-fresh money coming into the market

In the UK we only really say Lawyer but we are only a little place that have too many taxes and play really bad football at this time :]

I believe Attorney = Solicitor.

It confused me as a child when I would read that solicitation was illegal.

Here downunder we only use the term Lawyer. Attorney seems to be an only US term mainly?
