I confess, i'm a domain hoarder. I think it was said about Paul Stahura, co-founder of Donuts Domains that he never saw a nTLD (new top level domain) he didn't like. As a registry, Donuts owns over 240 nTLD, more than anyone in the world. You might say Paul was a hoarder of nTLD's, and I'm a hoarder of simple domains (both nTLD's and .com's). The biggest difference between me and Paul is that he paid a minimum of 250K each for his addiction, and I pay less than $10 each for my addiction.
In defense of my addiction, domains are so cheap compared to other investment decisions like real estate, it's a "no brainer" imho.. I have a propensity to take advantage of a good deal when I see one. I've been doing it for over 50 years. Some of the elder domainers here differ from my strategy, but the feeling is mutual
When I read and hear that old time domainers only sell 2% of their inventory each year, I say to myself...what's wrong with this picture? There's a lot wrong with it imho starting with, it just doesn't make sense.
Finally, for my critics who say I don't have a clue, I've been NAMING businesses, pets, boats, charity projects, and creating nicknames and vanity license plates for years. I created a name for a medical billing business I started called "Accounts Receivable Management Corporation" in 1977. While my partner and I realized that name was way too long, we hired an ad agency to help us come up with a new name in 1983. Well, they did. The new name for the company became AcSel, and today it's domain name/url is AcSel(.)org. We paid the ad agency $2,000 to help us come up with our new name, and guess who came up with the name???
I just can't wait for NamesCon in Vegas where I'll have an opportunity to meet domainers and hoarders alike. I have a propensity to hoard anything of value, and if you're gong to hoard anything, why not hoard domains
For any of you who have a question, please send me a PM and I'll do my best to answer it. See you in Vegas!
