Agreed.

All situations are different and it is ignorant to attribute laziness as the cause of all cases of poverty. There are people with multiple jobs struggling to get by. Not everyone can have a high paying job. In addition, unless you have experienced it first hand you have no right to make these kind of claims.

It's like a skinny guy with a genetically fast metabolism inhaling a heap of food followed by a large chocolate shake, all while criticizing a fat man for having no self-control.

Go live in Manila where the poor people buy secondhand food that originates from the rubbish because this 'mega city' can not handle the population, they are not lazy just not as fortunate as some , always be gracious for what you are lucky enough to have.

Depends on various factors, like what country you live in, what governments or dictatorships you live under or your culture. Some cultures are much more hard working than others, while others are less. And as "evirtual1" says, some people are just not as fortunate as others depending a lot on the above factors I mentioned.

As an example look at the Asians, especially Chinese, Japanese, Koreans, Indian etc. They are probably the hardest working people in the world, and yet there's still a lot of poverty in India and even China, while Japan and Korea are very advanced societies with very little poverty

There are some people who are unemployed who have no intention of ever working who are basically lazy, but definitions of poor can vary greatly from place to place.

I met some guy who was homeless by choice, slept where ever he could and lived off what he could find.

It doesn't take much to take most of us from being comfortably well off to struggling to pay to get through each day. Also wealth, social status, debt, etc. are all very much a creation of the society we live in. Things can and do change and we never really know what is round the corner so best to be grateful for what you have and don't take too much for granted.

Not all poor people are unemployed. They do have jobs but they don't make enough money because of various reasons.

Retired people have generally earned the right to be a bit lazy. However, if they have failed to save for retirement (pensions and social security), why should other people (taxpayers) be responsible for them?

This is all true, but invention and the progress generally is the road for the faster destruction of people.

Most jobs are not in poor communities, and the unemployed are less able to afford travel to interview after interview. But there's never a short line at a job fair in a poor area.

Many HR departments trashcan resumes of anyone who's unemployed. Among other types of discrimination (most of which are illegal in the US - but just try and prove it!)

It doesn't take much to take most of us from being comfortably well off to struggling to pay to get through each day.

A catastrophic illness or injury would push many people to that point.
