Sure they are if you can get them cheap enough. Have to be good names though. Some below average .coms sell because they are a .com but .orgs aren't as popular so only the very good ones make good money. That's what I've found anyway.

Thanks for this good advice.

The rule is the same like with other tlds: if the domain is good, it can be sold, if not, then it is wasted money...

I am building a small portfolio of .org domains. Yes they will most of the time fetch less then a .com would BUT are good for certain niches and can bring in funds when others wont.

90% or so of all sales that take place in the domain/website selling industry consist of .com domains.

Every other extension in existence (there are thousands of them now) only make up a mere 10% of all the sales/flips that have ever taken place.

You're losing 90% of the market by registering a domain that isn't a .com which lowers your chances of ever being able to flip them unless you have a really popular one word or two word domain that is in demand. Sticking with .com and avoiding everything else is what I would suggest.

only good domain names like dictionary words etc. are good.

Great tips so far, I would just add for .org the type of domains I have seen sell lots and also experienced it selling myself are school related words, charity related, government terms. These make more sense to go with a .org. A good example of this would be Textbooks.org or candy.net (Of course these are amazing but you get the point)

Also like someone mentioned already just stick to 1 word .orgs I do the same with .net only 1 word. With .coms then you can lean towards 2 words and even 3.

I think @Willox Perez explained well, social purpose related one word names are good for .org. Org TLD as they were supposed to be meant for charity/non-profit organizations. Org means that site does not involve anything with money. It is a non-commerce site by just by having .org extension. Not to mention how many queries I get claiming to be 'Non-Profit' or may be they are and wanting a '.com' name and I feel bad telling them that if you are non-profit, then get a org.

Its better to stay with .com
.net and .org are tough to sell.

.COM all the way. .net isn't selling that great in 2015 :(

Hello,

Personally, I would not like:

- Boatengines .org
- Halloweencostumes .org
- Atechcorporation .org

But I would like:

- Dogrescuecenter .org
- Diabetesawareness .org
- Riversideschool .org

But to flip them, they probably have to be shorter and "better" than that.

LLL.org and (especially) NNN.org are obviously GOOD ones, but that is probably another subject.

Ps. A year ago I sold a "Thai-destination-URL.org" for almost $3000, so destinations and geos might still work. There are probably many members here with more experience and knowledge.

Depends on the type of name.

.org and .net usual sell for a good price when the name has high search volume, is commonly used, describes exactly what a website will be about etc.

If flipping is fast sale I'm not sold on .orgs. Some premium one words can sell, but 2 word combinations not sure.
The only categories of .org that will sell no matter what is NNN.org and NNNN.org.
