Are free scripts free?

Maybe a stupid question, but...
I want to use a script on my site. The author claims it's free to use for anybody. My question is: can I be absolutely sure that when my site is earning money in the future I wont have any legal problems with this?

If the script license, says you may not make any money with this script. You cannot make money with it. But of course, you can email the author, and ask him, how much he wants for it.

If so, rad that license

It depends on the license, like everyone said.

If it is open sourced, it shouldn't be a problem.
