Is the overall idea of this site a good one?

Hi all,

I'm starting a site called Flonds.com and I guess I just want your input (since I've come too far in its development to stop!) on this idea.

It's a twist between NamePros and SourceForge, using NamePros' idea of NP$, except called "credits", and relating to and with SCRIPT UPLOADS instead of DOMAINS. See what I mean?

Now, the $$$ part of this: Users can post their scripts/applications for FREE (ALL submissions are free), or they can charge for each download, (say $5). Then I get 20% of all sales on the site, and the author of the script gets the other 80% of their sales.

Do you see what I mean? It's a money-making opportunity for both the Author of the script and the owner of the site. And, the customer gets what he/she wants.

Opinions on this concept?

Yes it is a good idea, but really, this is like an affiliate program but you take on more risk if you are the one responsible for processing credit cards. What if someone uploads a script to sell that is not their own? I think it is possible the actual script owner could sue you.

Take a look at templates.com ... designers can upload their template and if it sells, they keep half of the money. I see stolen templates on there all the time.

Well I have some legal things on the page... three checkboxes have to be checked before you can upload, saying you agree to the terms... etc.

It's hard to remember, IMO... and has no relative meaning.

Other than that, good idea.

Checkboxes/terms won't protect you if you are selling stolen goods. I think maybe you should give it some thought on how to protect yourself from selling stolen scripts. Not that there is some magical answer, but that's one thing to look out for.

Hopefully this will work out for you if you go through with it.

Yeah, the name is actually the name of the Mascot - that lizard thing in the corner (Originally drawn from Neopets' Techo pet Since I didn't want to use one of their trademarks, I drew my own temporarily.) ... couldn't think of what else to call it.

But thanks... I'll see what kind of legal protection I can get behind me. Sourceforge must have some sort... I can do the same. I just don't want to pay thousands for some law firm to write my legal terms...
