One common misconception about new domain extensions is that they may not give the same SEO benefits as the .coms and the .nets of the domain world. That simply isn’t true. Search engines are actually being more fair and treating all extensions as if they were the same, meaning they aren’t ranking these any lower than the .com and .net domain names.
In 2016, it’s fair to say that we will start seeing more and more companies and organizations take to these new extensions as they see the possibility of getting exactly the name they want is much higher than that of the traditional .coms and others. They’re the answer for those in search of unique domain names for marketing purposes or memorability.
While most of us who use the Web today still have our minds wrapped around the traditional TLDs, such as .com, .net, .org, .gov, etc, those who are born today will grow up on the Web that is full of these new and endless ones and wondered how we ever got by with the limited extensions we’ve become so accustomed to.

"This post was brought to you by Radix Registry. "

So many ads being posted around here as news.

Maybe if the kids hung around domain forums, best chance at seeing most of these.

False propaganda will not help anyone. New internet users even now expose 95% of their time to .coms/country extensions.

don't live in a hypothetical world.

I think there will come a time some day in which the dot between the domain name and the TLD will complete dissapear and it will be possible to use just a word / wordcombination (without a dot) as complete domain.
In the meanwhile those new TLDs will turn into worldwide common usage.

Then, after the GENERATION NOT COM the GENERATION NOT DOT will ask us:
What? A dot?? Why???

I think the internet is becoming more and more corporate everyday. I feel kids born from the 80s to aughts have way more technical knowledge about the internet than kids today, people are amazed by their kids using an iPad, but they are easy to use every square is something you can use. I think in the future it will be google/twitter/facebook/reddit etc and thats about it, well lets be honest were almost there now. I think were in store for another collapse. When corporations THIS involved it is gonna get messy, there is obvious meddling with new tlds, even to the point of registrars having people shill their new tld on these very forums. People that think new tlds aren't money grabs are lying to themselves. People went crazy over .tv because youtube was THE internet at that point, and there are a lot of ways to use television online. Maybe im being a bit of a cynic but lets be honest the new tlds are NOT coming from clean hands they are just huge corporations putting up money to try and make more money.

Kids are definitely the future... And my 6 and 7 year old already associate the internet with .com... There would need to be a massive content shift and so far, no one is really interested in investing in the content that will make the shift.

And startups still want .com's. I was just contacted this week from a K-12 education startup looking to spend "low to mid $xx,xxx" on their new brand (which I've owned for a decade)... PRE-financing. Whether or not we will come to terms, I don't know. But the fact is, they want the .com. They're either going with mine or someone else's... They have shown NO interest in using a new TLD, even if they can save tons of cash.

not sure why you disliked my post, i am basically saying the same thing as you. what i was trying to say is younger kids are most likely never going to troubleshoot on the computer, A LOT may never even use a pc. I know a lot of families that have two macbooks and two iPads for their kids. They are never going to have to know about bios or even really need to know what an ip address unless they are interested in it. So I agree to suggest that kids who are starting off with the level the internet is developed are some how going to gling to new tlds is ludicrous. I bet you the average person associates .net/info/org as a secondary option to dot com and for good reason, they are legacy tlds.

Also the guy who said we are just going to type in keywords and get sent to websites is the most unrealistic thing i've ever read. And that would be the only way new tlds would ever be in widespread use.

OOOPs. Complete misclick. My bad, so sorry... Fixed. I do like it. ;)

But I appreciate your conviction in attempting to re-convince me. :-D

Can rank any extension with good content. But launching on an alternative extension will still bleed free traffic to the .com owner. Personally I hope people launch sites on all of the .coms I own in alternate extensions as it trickles free traffic my way and any launches on alternate extensions that prove successful they usually come to purchase the .com at a later date.

.Com is king and I'll be dead before that changes if it ever does.

agreed

The Web is warming up to these, especially generic ones such as .online, .site, .space and vertical extensions like .tech – just to name a few. The possibilities of getting a domain name that is just right for an organization is a lot greater now.

Ignorance is bliss unless it involves money.

God Save these people.

Now the same word combination depending on the dot goes to different places. If one day that dot disappeared we will have less freedom of choice, who will then make that choice for us, Google? Apple, gov,.. the dot is forever a part of the address system imo... As for new gtlds when is this new generation going to be born because kids today not only prefer .com, they are unfamiliar with new gtlds. If new gtlds are around in 5 years I believe they will be comparable to cheap housing and .com as it is now and will most probably always be prime real estate. Would like to also say it's funny how new gtld were failing and after the Icann ex ceo visits China all of a sudden they are the biggest supporters. Not saying anything more than that its just a coincidence.
