Dan's statement in that story is "We cannot share the exact reason behind our decision at this point and we understand this can cause issues for some of our sellers."

Presumably there is a business reason for the decision - short term it does mean less listings and less commissions, longer term presumably there is some gain or advantage or some problem is solved.

I have been very satisfied with Dan. I don't have domains at Sav - I was going to buy one there once till I noticed I was required to pay extra to transfer it to Sav even if I didn't want it there, so I bought it for the same base price on another platform and transferred it where I wanted it.

I don't know them and never did business with them, but their reviews on TLD-list don't look good.

big problem.. as many moved or are moving names to sav due to prices..so its mutually exclusive...u either do biz with dan or sav. for sales.

but not all lost this their stupid childish fight at yer expense can be solved in equally stupid way. if u sell name on sav via dan... transfer it at yer cost of course to say dyna...then push to dan.

lame solution for even lamer bunch of kids fighting at our cost.

unless in their kid fight dan went as far as to implement algorithm to not even let u add names on sav to dan ... I guess at this stage we can expect any level of pathetic... so they can get at dan thru us and our cost.

I am not taking sides, but each dispute like this hurts everyone... I would argue no one wins.
    • Those with domains at SAV probably feel less positive towards DAN, and more apt to sell through other channels, at least their SAV domain names. They probably also question being at SAV. (DAN loses, SAV loses, domain investors lose)
    • Investors will be less likely to register at SAV, since more options available the better (SAV loses, domain investors lose)
    • The industry is hurt by each dispute like this that gets, in business eyes, generalized to the domain aftermarket 'industry' is not stable and professional and stay away from it (DAN loses, SAV loses, other companies not part of this lose, domain investors lose).
    • Those with domain names at SAV and DAN need to quickly chase and do work to do something else (domain investors lose, DAN loses)
    Common theme: domain investors lose

No one wins a fight. Ever. Everyone loses.

Let me end on a positive. Thank you to companies that manage to get along with others, serve customers well, and avoid drama. Yes there are a few.

    I want to be clear

In over 30 domain transactions at DAN, I have NEVER had a negative experience.

In ONE transaction transferring a domain out at SAV, it is still in process, 6 days later, multiple emails. Hoping this is only due to their update but not sure.

However, what do I do with SAV names? List on anic and sedo, but to use Efty, DNWE etc I prefer to use DAN as the middle man, that just got cut off. I can use Escrow etc butI implicitly trust Dan.

I can appreciate DAN but still not like the public spats in the domain world as they effect me directly.

Didnt they stop dealing with SAV like 3 months ago? I remember that I contacted DAN's support 2 months ago about that and they confirmed, and when I asked them what will happen if one of my SAV domains (very few) get sold at DAN, they answered that they would not complete the transaction!

I wonder why DAN dont just request auth code for SAV domains during transactions instead of completely banning them.

Yes, but DAN will lose more IMO. Because low pricing of SAV keeps them in a indispensable position. DAN is more replaceable with one of its competitors.

I am not sure because have not personally yet registered any at SAV but from what was shared elsewhere I think the difference is that although they would not process anything involving a push, but would auth code. Now they won't, as I read it, do either, if name is registered at SAV they won't process sale any more. Please correct me if I am wrong, someone, as just repeating second hand information.

If that is the case then it is beyond "no more working with" it is blacklisting. Even Afternic didn't completely ban Epik domains they just canceled fast transfer, you can still list and sell your Epik domains at Afternic.

It is unfortunate to see clashes becoming more frequent in domaining insustry:
    DAN vs SAV clash
    DAN vs Epik clash
    Godaddy vs Epik clash
    Epik vs Paypal clash

    What's next?!

I guess Rick Schwartz vs. Mike Mann could be fun?

As to Sav, I have not tried them yet, so I have no idea what is going on. But as several other people have mentioned, nobody really gains from these conflicts.

Didn't this all start a while back because Dan said Sav's landers were to similar to theirs?

Kudo's to both sides for not airing your dispute out here in public. I hope you resolve your issues

I just checked 4 names I have at Sav, using Dan landers and they are all showing up fine.. So are people seeing their sav names listed on Dan being deleted by Dan, or is it that if you sold a Sav name on Dan it just wouldn’t be processed by Dan?
Just trying to make sure I’m understanding this and If I need to change a bunch of nameservers now.🙄

apparently u can sell sav name...get paid... then what.. I guess be given option to transfer at yer cost to another registrar...then push to dan.. technically that's not selling sav name..
cause u ain't giving it to dan from sav via push or auth code.

I guess it could make all happy.

sure dan can be real mean kid on block and say u cant do this..but then they'd have to setup algorithms to detect which name at sav..ban it from market...landers...and make sure it never gets bought and paid...cause once its paid .. it's a whole different problem...can cost people sales...refunds...buyer claims on money etc..

Nice sentiment but not practical in the real world— if a registrar is slow and unreliable that isn’t a mend able scenario. Nobody can force them to do their job right.

The only feelings that that matter are the buyers who doesn’t want to wait a week after shelling out money to get their domain and who will get mad at DAN or whatever platform and not the uncooperative registrar.

Its not a spat. Its someone not doing their job in a prompt and timely fashion and it reflects on everyone involved in the transaction. I support DAN’s decision.

People should chose their registrar’s more carefully or list elsewhere instead of getting mad at DAN because someone unreliable dangled low reg fees in front of their nose.

I agree a problem if that is case (although there are other registrars that are at least this slow with any transfer, from what I understand), but from what they have said it is not clear to me if it is that or something else that we don't know. It seems to me that there is a whole set of rules set up by ICANN re transfers. If those are not being followed, a complaint could be submitted to ICANN, I think. If it is an auth code they won't even accept, I don't understand what the issue is.

Perhaps they tried to resolve it in private, and then it came to this.

This one does not affect me personally, but I still feel it reflects badly on our industry that things can't be worked out.

I sold a name on NJ a few months ago, and it took them at Web.com from I believe it was August to mid-December to confirm the sale and I am supposed to get paid next week. It was the longest I have ever had to wait to get paid for a domain name and for the buyer it was 2-3 months to actually get the domain name after they paid for it. They said it was a glitch in how their system shows if a name is paid or not. I had to send several emails to get it fixed.
