I was just looking over some of my .tv's and remembered I've got two Dutch .tv's just kind of sitting there. Has there been much activity in the Dutch market lately?

I think my translation of these two are right -

Grappig.tv (funny)
Godsdienst.tv (religion)

Do you think these are worth holding on to for another year?

Yep, the translations are right!

If I had to choose between the two, I would go for grappig.tv .
IMO godsdienst is such an ugly word...

Look at it from an enduser's point of view; you could use grappig.tv as a site for funny videos, which are one of the top searched keywords out there.

But then again, if I would sleep over it, I'd probably drop them both..

Investing in German words is a safer bet IMO.

Funny.tv & Religion.tv are 2 strong keywords. I would renew those name. I would look at it from the point of view of what development potential the name would have & if it was in English, would the name be valuable.

Hi Amy, like b2b mentioned the translation of both names is indeed correct.

Grappig.tv is better then Godsdienst.tv in my opinion as the word 'godsdienst' sounds a little bit old fashioned.

Personally I would renew Grappig.tv for sure as people use that word very often. Godsdienst.tv is a big doubt.

As .tv is getting real common in The Netherlands I wouldn't be surprised if there will be a Dutch language 'religion' based tv channel somewhere in the future and therefore I would be a little tempted to renew that one as well.

Thank you, John, and everyone for your help :) It's very good to know that .tv is indeed getting noticed in the Netherlands, and I will definitely be renewing when the time comes.

Amy

I have a house just a few miles from the Dutch border and travel through the Netherlands quite regularly - actually - quite a lot. Indeed, we even get cheaper fuel from over the border at certain times when the difference is noticeable.

I can confirm that .TV is very popular in the Netherlands as I see the signs quite often (although I actually saw my first TV.com sign last week near Utrecht).

It is also worth considering that the Belgian company that bought Acht.TV recently were buying it for the Dutch language part of Belgium.

I have a couple of Dutch town names but have ad NO interest so far. I also own a few small names like presentatie (Presentation). The fact I don't speak Dutch means I do have the same fears when buying into this market that most of us have - namely, that I've bought a name that in a dictionary is good - but in the real language is not really used very often (or even out of date).

I would take John's advice - if this master says hold - then hold.

Even more exciting news, thanks Jimbo! I agree too, regging names in other languages is tricky business, I'm happy I was correct with these 2 :)

I guess we will see whats up with Dutch domains as I have just started an auction on Parijs.tv, I assume someone saw this thread and made a bid, so Im throwing caution to the wind.

I would keep grappig.tv and for Goddienst i doubt it. as John said it sounds old fashioned. for religion i prefer use the word "religie" ( of course its already taken )
check it in google to compare those 2 words, you'll see the different

I have few names in Dutch and so far got quit a few offers via Sedo and email, ranging from $xx to mid $xxx which i turned down. I just let go one off my hand last year for 1000 euro. The rest i prefer keep it. Last week i got $200 offer for a geo, turned it down cause i believe in this market.
Names i own : Books, cooking, fishing, boy, girl, dating, broker, cycling, etc.

Hmmm maybe I should have held out for more than $60. Well I hope some of the ducth folks bid up Parijs.tv. Do you mind sharing the Geo that you got the offers on?

I am Mobi and can't confirm it but I assume it is.

Yes I checked a couple of online dictionaries before I regged it (I don't speak Dutch). Also checked Google Adwords tool (with language set to Dutch) and it gets average 201,000 exact match searches per month

Now I need to decide what to do with it :)

Cheers, Jon

Hey Jon,

Yep, it's the right translation!

About your decision on what to do with it, have a look at horoscoop.be. It's a Belgian site.

Might give you a few pointers.
