The trend of using fan pages on social network like facebook is becoming very popular because of its usefulness for increasing the popularity of buisnes. I want to know is there any other new activity on social networks can prove useful?

Yes, actually a well designed fan page can also increase conversions.
Now a days fan pages can be made into squeeze pages, forcing users to like/post,etc. before being able to view more content.
Different businesses use this in a different way.

You need use other social network site like Orkut, Twitter, Tagged, friendster and hi5..........

I had more success with Twitter rather then Facebook. On Twitter you have the search so anything you post can be found. On Facebook you only post for your friends / clients ... but if you don't have them ... then is hard to promote your business.

You can use LinkedIn esp. if you are promoting B2B offers.
