Below is the generic template I use:

"Hi, my name is Billy and I own the domain (Insert Domain Here). I am contacting you today because I thought you may have an interest in acquiring my domain, (Insert Domain Here). (Insert Domain Here) was registered back in 2000 and this is the first time that I am offering the domain for sale. As the owner of (Insert Domain Here) I truly believe your business and website (Insert Buyers website here) could really benefit from owning my domain due to the large increase of internet traffic your website would acquire. If you are interested in (Insert Domain Here) I am open to offers. I am sending out an email to other parties that I believe may be interested in this domain so my email to you is not exclusive and I’m looking to sell the domain on a first come first serve basis.
Thanks for your time
-Billy"

My question today is, how do some of my fellow NamePro users contact their potential buyers? What other information should I include? Thanks in advance!

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.

Not to be negative, but 2 things immediately stand out to me:

1. You state: "benefit from owning my domain due to the large increase of internet traffic your website would acquire." I would definitely NOT make a promise like that. If they buy the domain and don't see an increase, who knows, they may try to sue you claiming you told them they would see an increase or that you lied/deceived them.

2. It's too lengthy. I would condense it, make it more to the point. Busy business people don't want to read a marketing spiel. Most people would delete this before they made it half way through.

Definitely too long. 3-4 sentences; who you are, what you do, what you're offering. I've always believed in this. If they're interested, they'll reply and you can give them a more detailed pitch, if required. I recently did an outbound campaign doing the exact opposite, to re-test my theory, and it was nothing short of disastrous.

Thanks for the replies guys. Definitely going to have to write something up that's much better thought out.

+1

I'm an avid reader and will read just about anything put in front of me -- even complicated scientific/medical/engineering/etc articles (just ask the women sitting across the aisle from me on my last flight...) -- but when I saw your post I immediately skipped past it without reading it as all I saw was "the wall" and knew the responses would be far more interesting and would let me know what you were trying to say.

Break up what ever you write in to "paragraphs" of no more than 1-2 sentences (3 max). People just do a quick scan of things looking for something of interest or importance to them. If all they see is a wall of text, odds are you've already lost them.

My thoughts as well, think of all the SEO spam that promises you will be ranking #1 on google :)
You shouldn't be making that kind of promise unless you have traffic stats to show. Traffic may be a reason for purchasing a domain.

I started a thread a while back. Maybe it'll give answer to your question.
