Another drop question??

Drop catching ( a good domain anyway ) is like catching a falling star, as far as I am concerned...

Anyway, I had a few good ones on backorder at SnapNames, NameWinner, and Pool, and none of them got the name... How can I find out who got the name, and can I see the auction if I am not bidding?

you are best to find out who it was registered with - then use the domain drop catcher who is partnered with that register.

Most of these names get "passed" not dropped - Did you try TDNam.com to see if it was being auctioned off there ? There are also many Private drop catchers so you may not see it again :td:

Thanks, I am still a bit cloudy on all of the finite details of drop-catching, this one particular domain that was supposed to drop the other day is a premium .info (at least I think it is) so some may know the domain I am referring to...

But the whois now says:

Just means that it was dropped and re-regged on the creation date shown.

The chances of you getting this name now are slim to none.

Yes, I know that I can't get it now, I was just wondering if it is possible to find out which drop catcher picked it up, and how much it went for in auction, if it did go to auction.

I guess good names like this one won't make it to auction anymore? is that true? The domain kiting or tasting big boys can just grab them and not hold an auction? Is that true?

I have seen a couple of examples when it appears the register itself decided to keep the name for themselves as far as I can tell :td:

There are many many good names that do get to auction - the problem then is competing with the "usuals"

I'm sure there must be some behind the scenes wangling going on but for the most part the auctions seem legit to me.

Pocketdomain.com just resolves to Enom.com, presumable as a reseller for them. Therefore, I would presume that Enom Club Drop picked it up. Unless you were a bidder there, you probably would not see what it went for.

With a new creating date, it would have actually dropped from the original registrar and is considered a new registration, not an auction before drop.

You might get some information by looking at the new owners name or do a reverse IP on the domain to see what other sites are hosted there. The DNS server names could give you a little more info.

Since the name is definitely registered now, you could post the name and we could help you learn more about what happened.

If we all clubbed together and send "the usuals" off on holiday (to somewhere without computers) for a month we could grab some very sweet and valuable names for a bargain price !! Do you think they would go for it :lol:

This might give you some info:

The registrar is shown as pocketdomains.com, which resolves to enom. The domain shows a whois of an attorney's office in Washington, DC. A whois history shows it was previously listed as:

A search on the name shows Mr. Garthwaite apparently as Enom's attnorney:

Therefore, I would presume that pocketdomains is actually enom themselves, and therefore picked up on the drop by enom or one of it's subsidiaries.

Since the mars.info domains shows the registrar and registrant as the same person, there is apparently whois pivacy set up. The DNS servers are set to fastpark.net, which is likely a parking site o aplus.net who owns the icann registrar names4ever.com. Since that's not an enom site, I would speculate that the owner is not enom themselves, but someone they drop catch for. Maybe a high roller special customer, employee, or someone friendly to them. I'm not sure if there's a way to see club drop pickups after the fact to see if it went through that auction.

This is a tough one to really find out who the owner really is at this point, or exactly how they obtained it.
