Another Computer Problem... BSOD/Freezing Related.

(Gateway Computer, Windows XP Media Edition 2005, 200 GB HDD, 512 MB DDR Memory, 7200 RPM with 2 MB Cache)

Since the other computer I had which I had made a topic for was completely uncontrollable, my other computer (which is bad, but not nearly as much as the other one) was brought out and hooked up to the internet. Unfortunately, it may have the same problem, but I am not sure.

This problem is slightly different from the other, but I can't say it is the same.

The problem is that the computer crashes when using a moderate amount of what I am assuming is RAM, but I am not such a computer whiz so I am not exactly sure that is the problem, but it does happen when it using too much of something...
The computer either freezes or crashes when these situations are present:

-FireFox is open and has too many tabs (around 6) up and I am using them variously and moderately quickly.
-FireFox is open and I am watching a video/listening to music.
-Norton Anti-virus is performing a full scan on my computer.
-I am making a video in Windows Movie Maker.
-Internet Explorer is open and I am watching a video/listening to music.
-I am watching a video/listening to music using Windows Media Player or another media player.
-FireFox/IE is open and a site that is basically completely flash is up and is being used or not.
-A game (RealArcade) is being played.
-FireFox/IE is open and contains a lot of images or is designed with lots of large images is being viewed or is in a tab.
-A large image is being edited in Paint.NET.
-IncrediMail is open.

Of course, times vary while things are open depending on what is open and what the circumstances are.

But there is another problem.
75% of the time, after a crash has occurred or my computer froze and I shut it off, this happens:

1st Startup - Bluescreen (nothing is dumped) between the time Gateway comes up and by the time the Windows XP startup occurs or black screen appears and says that cannot locate a specific Windows directory.
2nd Startup - Same thing or freezes at that point or earlier.
3rd Startup - Freezes at some early point or does not even make the monitor turn on. Can't turn it off. Goes into sleep mode.
4th Startup - May not even show the power button light up or do the same as before.
... Startup - Same thing really...

I have to wait like 5 minutes before starting the computer back up, in some cases 10-15.

I know it is not he video card or whatever because it was replaced with no difference in results.

Can anyone help, in terms of telling me how I can lessen the amount of... whatever... something uses when active?

I will try to post some BSOD error codes, but most say something about the files nstf.sys, win32k.sys, or nothing at all, but some say different things.

For the 4th number set (counting all including the one outside of the parenthesis), I missed a character, so it may be incorrect.

The last two BSODs (of the three there were) were sent, but the error reports were corrupted. Usually, they are all sent fine. The first of the three was sent with no problem, but they all come back saying there is no solution available.

I can't find anything. My version is s7713 and it doesn't have anything relating to the RAM stick with it.

Done about 10 times before. I also had it disconnected from the internet for awhile, still did it.

mis_chiff - Thanks, but I cannot find it in my computer (still talking about the same kind). It is much smaller, and not built the same.

It may not even be that so don't give up...
If you live near a store that sells computers,
go in and talk to a rep, get him to open up a
computer and show you where things are.

Don't tell them you have an issue with yours
until after you find out what you need to.
If your lucky, you'll get someone who will be able
to actually help you with it! (without the cost)

Thanks, but I don't use my phone, as I am in a shared house. (I'm only 13, I don't have a cell phone and I don't use my home phone.)

To say if my XP (the one I am using and haven't ripped apart) has another problem, whatever it could be, what would it be if it was not the RAM and how would I detect it?

Post all of the symptoms, and when you next get a blue screen (arn't I optimistic about windows :P) have a look at what it says. Usually it is pretty useless, but some of the errors are quite easy to figure out.

Don't feel so pessimistic, it is inevitable. I can usually predict when it will happen, I just hope it doesn't. It has done it every time I tried to transfer my Windows Movie Maker project to a video (or it freezes or WMM shuts off). But yesterday, I actually got to 89% and then a BSOD had to ruin it...

P.S. I gave Rep+ to all who tried to help me that I was able to.

Okay, I'm assuming this is the problem:
I have four RAM sticks, 3 of them are disconnected.
How do I get to this conclusion?

When my computer starts up, it says I have 128.0 MB of RAM.
My computer originally had 512 MB of RAM.

Someone please, PM or post a picture of a RAM stick in a Gateway 816GM Media Center PC (Windows XP).

I'm going to carry out trying to clip the RAM stick(s) back in.

I will gladly give links to anyone who has helped (or offered to) on my site CodeLyoko.us forever...

And one more question: How would this have happened?

make sure the power is off and the cable is unplaugged from the computer, take the side off the machine, hold the casing frame with 1 hand and push the power button in, this will release any static in the machine and ground you....then firmly push the ram sticks back into place, they should click as the ends of the ram holders clip round the ram. plug cable back in and boot to check the ram is being read properly..

Don't touch the gold connectors on the bottom of the RAM stick, only touch the sides of it. It can also take a suprising amount of force to push the sticks back in, don't worry about damaging the card unless it bends or something.

Okay, I found the RAM sticks in my computer, but there was something different...
No-one told me that 2 RAM sticks held a RAM board (or whatever it is called) because I have 4, and 2 of them are holding one board. There was one clip undone (there where 4 clips in total, 1 on the bottom and top of the middle area between RAM sticks. I clipped the only undone one (at the bottom of the two sticks with no board) and my moniter would not turn on. I clipped it back out, everything was normal. So I unclipped the two clips for the 2 RAM sticks and it started up...

I am hoping that was the problem. I have not tested to see if it will crash yet, but for some reason my computer started up a bit faster and I did not have the error when trying to open FireFox (well, it comes on, freezes for a bit and settles) and I have WeatherBug which usually is a bit harassing as it usually opens, freezes, and then settles as FireFox. But sometimes this happens, so I am not completely sure.

If I may have fixed it or if I need a new RAM board or something else, please tell me.

I am going to see if it crashes, as I will try to turn my Windows Movie Maker project into a video file, I haven't completed it and tried many times and it either froze or crashed every time.

Good news! I actually got to finish publishing my video without WMM crashing, my computer freezing, or my computer crashing! I actually am listening to it while I'm typing!

Ehh... It looks like I tried to put a little to much on it, and it had another BSOD, but it was an NTFS.sys error...
