Fred Mercaldo, CEO of Geocentric Media based in Scottsdale, is looking to retire and sell off his assets, including sheboygan.com.
Mercaldo said that a city domain carries a lot of credibility and provides easy searchability. He could see, for example, a local entrepreneur passionate about the area purchasing it to showcase local events and businesses.
"Sheboygan has a lot of allure," he said.
Even though Mercaldo is not a Sheboyganite, he said he's always been drawn to the area. Earlier in his career, he lived in Chicago for 15 years, but spent every other week traveling to Green Bay. And being an avid golfer, he expressed that he regrettably hasn't played at Whistling Straits but knows it's right in Sheboygan's backyard.
Having always liked Sheboygan and Wisconsin culture, in general, Mercaldo jumped on the opportunity to purchase the domain — along with kenosha.com, which he recently sold — three years ago.
The domain comes with a $75,000 price tag, which Mercaldo says is a bargain. While some domain investors would price a city domain based on population, Mercaldo said he likes to assign a value based on what the city has going for it.
(To put it in terms of local goods, $75,000 could buy roughly 5,000 pizzas from Il Ritrovo or over 11,600 vegan shakes from Paradigm.)
