    AMUG.com
    Purchase Price: $1521

    Sell Price : $5500

    ROI : Approximate 260%

    • Won name on Namejet for $1521 on 10th November 2016
    • Did not list anywhere to sell yet.
    • I got call from Afernic Broker on 15th November 2016 with offer of $3000 which I did not accepted.
    • I did my little research and found out the average price for A+LLL(where LLL is dictionary word) around $5000-$10000 and more for super premium items.
    • I received call again within 2 days with offer of $3500. I said my expectation is Mid-High $XXXX. I explained my reasoning to him why my expectation is in that range. I told him to convey my message to interested buyer.
    • Little more back and forth same day and we end up agreeing with the price of $5500. Not bad ROI in 1 week without any other effort from my side.

In short this is my first sale without listing the name anywhere or without putting any effort to sell anywhere including any trading platform. I have sold many names for higher price or higher ROI but this one is unique in its own sense.

Please fill free to share your similar experience as well. Sharing is caring. We will learn something from each other.

    Thanks

    Hi Teradomain,

I am still a newbie but I do think that your sale is unique as well!

Would you mind sharing a bit about your sale? Would you prefer a discussion here or via PM? I am a newbie and am now still learning about domain sales and market analysis.

    Thank you before! :)

What I actually want to know are the following:

    1. What kind of reasoning that he gave to the buyer that could bump up the price of $3.5k to $5.5k? Is it sufficient just to say to buyer "Hi Mr. X, the average of such domain is $5k-$10k"?

    2. What does amug.com mean/stand for? A+MUG?

    3. How did the buyer come across the domain in the first place? By typing in? Because to me, it is not something that I would type into my browser.

    4. Why wouldn't I want it because of it having vowels?

    All comments appreciated!

Let me give you little more detail one by one.

    1. What kind of reasoning that he gave to the buyer that could bump up the price of $3.5k to $5.5k? Is it sufficient just to say to buyer "Hi Mr. X, the average of such domain is $5k-$10k"?

    aism.com 5,000 USD 2011-05-18 Sedo

These are the LLLL. names with Article "A" as a prefix. If we compare then price of A+MUG comes between $5K-$10K. I still believe close to $10K or little more but I am happy with good ROI in less than a week without any extra effort from my side. Here Car, Cam, Jet, Bag, Pic are much much broad and more premium compare to MUG. It was just my little study plus Buyer's Budget as well. I knew there is no way he will go all the way to $10K. So I settle for $5500.

    2. What does amug.com mean/stand for? A+MUG?

    • "A" can be an Article (represents "Single/one"!!!)
    • Or "A" can be a grade too like place for "A" grade "MUG"
    • MUG = a large cup, typically cylindrical and with a handle and used without a saucer.
      synonyms: cup, glass;
    • Basically AMUG.com can be good ecommerce site for selling customized Mugs.
    • But interestingly AMUG.com is currently forwarding to http://www.additivemanufacturingusersgroup.com/

    3. How did the buyer come across the domain in the first place? By typing in? Because to me, it is not something that I would type into my browser.

    • I got call from Broker directly within couple of days.
    • My guess is current owner may have participated in Namejet Auction with Highest Bid of $1500 placed and may be sitting peacefully or may be not watching auction in last 5-10 minutes because highest Bid was only around $400-$500 until last 5-10 minutes.
    • I went all the way until I become highest bidder when last 6 minutes left. So another people only have 6 minutes to bid. If someone place bid in last minute then Auction get extended for another 5 minutes. But I took chance and become winner. Yes I know there are so many people wait for last few minutes, but probability are higher to win in last few minutes. There are several variable involves and so many various pattern involve. I knew even $1500 is not high for that name.
    • So I am guessing 99.99% Current owner was participant in that auction and could not able to place higher bid than me in last few moments of auction for xyz reason. That can be the reason Afternic Broker contacted to my Whois phone number without name being listed anywhere.
    4. Why wouldn't I want it because of it having vowels?

    • Another friend may be comparing this name with Chinese premium name (without A,E,I,O,U,V) which are selling for around $1400 at the moment.

    Thanks

    Thanks for the reply!

    1. Yes, looking at the car, jet, bag, they are indeed premium stuff; however, why did you believe that its value should be $10k? Is it because the ones (e.g ism, pay, ray, rah, set, biz, fix, ran) in the $5k - $8.1k region doesn't really mean anything and what you had did mean something (a mug)?

    2. How do you know if the prices above are end user or reseller price?

    3. In regards to the vowel, so which one do you think is more favourable, with vowel or without vowel?

Thank you so much for your long and detailed explanation! :)

Great. How can you push the domain that is under 42 days from buying (at NameJet) date to selling date?

    Nice sale. Congrats.

When I first started years ago I handregged an .co.uk LLLL.

7 days after regging it I received an email from an enduser which I actually had plans to contact but didn't yet.

Closed the deal for $1000 in 24 hrs.

Be nice if those happened more often....

But they are called lottery sales.

    Congrats again.

Domain deal was finalized within week. Money was in Afternic Escrow. I tried to push name and got message that domain is locked for internal transfer until December 23rd 2016. I pushed names on December 23rd 2016. Yes domain was locked until 45 days in ENOM.

    Thanks
