I've just acquired Amsterdam dot Org

It's been bought for development, but i'm interested in hearing your opinions on value.

PR4
Wordtracker: 4375 per day (estibot)
Google adwords tool: 20,400,000 average searches per month 2,740,000 - local search volume in July.

Thanks for your opinions.

AfternicAfternic
Comparable sales:
madrid.net $43,920 2008 sedo.com
beijing.net $50,000 2008 snapnames

I don't see this domain going near 6 figures.

Where I come from Amsterdam is a much more popular place than those two + .org is more known around here due to a number of charities using the .org extension. I would have to value Amsterdam.org at easily $80k. IMO.

Does it really effect the value that wherever you're from people think Amsterdam is more popular? Does it effect the value that .org is often used by charities? I don't believe so.

Google monthly global search volume comparison:
amsterdam - 20,400,000
madrid - 55,600,000
beijing - 16,600,000

I think for a city domain .org is better only for sites actually run by the city government.

To be honest, .org fits this extension better than .com

I would say low-mid $$$$$ easily, practically.

I would value the long-term value of this domain as high $$$$$ to low $$$$$$, but I just can't see someone willing to pay that much for it - maybe in a while.

No. Even if this is was a site run by an organization, .com is still better.

i assume the logic is: hippies love amsterdam. hippies hate companies. hippies love organizations.

org is the hemp bracelet of tlds

I love GEO domains in .ORG, but would always take the .COM over the .ORG

However, Amsterdam.com would also be a seven figure domain.

Not sure about that. Noone recognizes .com as commercial anyway.

Pay attention: I said it fits it better, not which is the better domain.

For the reason that wutzalldisden said basically.

Maybe not as an abbreviation for commercial, in fact if you ask most non-domainer-people they'd probably say computer or commerce before commercial.

But .com is recognized for being the most related domain to commercial entities.

Similar geo .org sales:

illinois.org $31,000 (2008)
us.org $45,000 (2008)
asia.org $30,000 (2008)
moon.org $5,020 (2007)
ohio.org $30,000 (2006)
america.org $20,000 (2005)

Pay attention: I said it fits it better, not which is the better domain.

It doesn't fit better imo. What do hippies have to do with organizations? Other than from an organizaitions perspective, .com is always better.
