geo names have been in the news recently and many of us have read many things about them here and in other forums, blogs, etc

i did a scan to see (and reg) every american cities dot com, net and info available
for california, florida, maryland, new jersey, new york and virgina my scan was for cities with 20,000+ people; for all the other states it was 15,000+

under the correct definition of city i found 1 .com, 5 .net and 3 .info available

besides cities, there are census-designated places, townships and unincorporated community

under these definitios above i found 9 .com, 12 .net and 14 .info; there is one city is trying to change its name and .com, .net and .info are available i did not include in the total ammount

i have these questions:

1) what do you think is the most important to a geo name have potential?

2) do you think a place it is not a city can lose value because of this even this place, say has 50,000+ inhabitants? would you reg this name?

3) how much do you think a city (with no more than 100,000 people) name is worth? which factors do you think are important to increase or decrease this value, if any?

BTW, the .com city was available and it had its .net availabe as well; now they are mine
this city has 54,000 people and 2,500,000+ google results... not a bad hand reg at all, dont you agree? :hehe:

That is a good hand reg. :tu:

Heck, even neighborhoods are worth getting if the area is good. I recently found a top 100 elite neighborhood that was available. An Atlanta suburb neighborhood with 50,000 people sold for about $250,000 last year by the way. So, it isn't just population, but other factors like medium income or home values.

I have got real big into these geo names lately mostly with .com and .infos. I have been spending tons of time searching the citys in databases looking for unregistered ones. Seems like those townships and unincorporated communities are always coming up. Cities with population over 10,000 is a real good reg imho. Would you reg ones that are a uninc, township, or census designated place if the pop. is decent?

also another question. Would you reg a .biz of a city with population around 28,000?

:bah:

No, I wouldn't. 28k is small & .biz is not a big reseller.

I agree. If you are asking a question about registering something and are relying on a response, you should wait more than 15 minutes after posting to register the name. :imho:
