Hi, dont know if this belongs here but I just read about alternative DNS-root, and wanted to hear experienced domainers opinion about this.

I know it has existed a long time now, but I just read about it. What do you think, is this a danger to the those who has domain for living, those who sell and buy TLD or ccTLD domains.

English is not my first language, so its hard for me to describe what alternative DNS-root is but you can read about it at the following link:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alternative_DNS_root

What do you think?

Best regards

I don't see alternate roots gaining legitimacy any time in the near future. new.net probably came the closest to getting ISP's to sign on to get access, but then it seemed to fizzle out after about a year or so.

It's a lot like buying a counterfeit Rolex. It may look the same, but inside it's not the same quality and it has no resale value on the open market. Putting a business on one is about like trying to start a retail store in a desert with only gravel roads. You won't be seen by enough people to be successful.

The real use for alt roots would be private intranets, where you don't want outsiders to have access. In this case only those who you allowed to access your private DNS server could see or find the content of the groups domains.
