After talking about this for months and months, I think that it has finally happenned. The 4 letter domains starting with the letter "A" have been bought out.

What next?

Looking at the stats from 3par's DYYO.com, the next most popular preceeding letters appear to be:
SLLL.com ~ 461 (2.6%)
CLLL.com ~ 568 (3.2%)
BLLL.com ~ 1012 (5.8%)
TLLL.com ~ 1079 (6.1%)

Not sure if this means much though. There are still many ALLL.com domains dropping routinely but it does look like the ALLL.com's are properly bought out.

Good to know!

The beginning of the last of the 4L.com?

The reduction rate of LLLL.com's was cut in half when .MOBI hit, and has not recovered. A straight line trend would put extinction well into 2008.

But the underlying value (desirability in relation to the rest of the domain market) continues to rise in tandem with the overall market. That value looks quite high now, to my way of assessing it.

...well it could be now that instead of waiting for a fairy godmother to suck up all the remaining domains, individual starting letters will attract leading speculators such that little black holes will begin to appear in the LLLL firmament. It is unlikely that there will be a straight line of disappearance. At some point there might be a mad rush for the remaining little critters.

Actually black holes named "all premium letters" and "quality pronouncables" have been there for a year and a half, at least. LLLL's are more holes than cheese.

But I agree, someone(s) is gonna gobble the rest - long before the straight line hits bottom.

Speculator money will return to LLLL.com a bit later this year, after the first round of .mobi sales has fully passed.

I am close to be done with a full scan of all LLLL.com domains. I will post with the results of the availability of all LLLL.com domains. Based on a quick lookover of my scan that I have done, I do believe all ALLL.com domains are currently registered.

They are all gone but lots of them still make no sense.

All LLL.coms are gone and lots of them don't make much since either; however, any random LLL.com is still work ~$3k. Any random LLLL.com most likely will also be worth more than regfee within the next year.

for an acronym, why is the first letter so important?

There are lots of companies that have their company name that starts with the letter "A." Part of this could be because there are a lot of companies start with the word "American ....." A is also a vowel and can lend to pronunciable domains.

A,C & S are the 3 most common letters for acronyms. I'm not sure which is the most common. There is a good chance that it is A but I think the main reason that the 4 letter domains starting with A ran out before those starting with C and S is related to the fact that domains starting with the letter A come at the top of lists of available LLLL.com domains. I think that this also affects the letter B as there is a lot of evidence that M is a more popular letter for an acronym than B but there is more LLLL.com's starting with the letter M available than B.

Not quite!

I just did a scan and found AQJS.com available -- so I registered it! That may have been the last one...

Isn't it true that a lot of companies want to be at the top of lists and in the phone book so they start their names with an A? Someone told me that once. :)

OH and thanks for letting us know.

That may help explain the A1 phenomenon.
